Many of you have E-mailed me about the STALLING of the CAR in the moring.....we'll i thook the car to the DEALER and they said that nothing was wrong with the STARTER ....but the IDLE speed was to LOW, thus cause the Car to Stall in the MORNING.........Cost me about $33 to fix.

The RMP's now are set too........

Right after Starting = 1500 RPM
In Drive = about 600-700 RPM
Nutral = 900 RPM

Thanks

My 98 Max started to act up about a month ago when the weather started getting cold. I start the car and it would go to about 1500 rpm then it drops to about 500-700 rpm and then it would go back to 1300 rpm. I was concerned and called the dealer. They told me to bring it in. I brought in it and left it overnight. They called me the next day and said that it had to with an idle valve or something like that (not sure what the guy really said, I just wanted my car back. Now my car starts up perfectly. It would stay at 1500 (give or take) and gradually drops as the engine gets warmer. It didn't cost me anything because it was done under warranty.

Yeah it was covered under warranty. My car currently has 29,000 miles on it. Doesn't the warranty end at 30,000?

I have a 97 maxima se and i have been having some trouble witht the idle speed also. When it starts it goes to about 1300 rpms, but the problem is when it is warmed up it drops to about 500 rmps in nutral. Does anyone know how to adjust the idle speed or do i have to bring it into the shop?

My car does that now. Mine would start up fine, and then drop to like 150-300 rpms. Sometimes it would even stall. You think that could be the same problem w/ mine?

huh? you idle at neutral and drive

on different rpm?
ERR...WEIRRRDDDDDDDDD......
you know...I had that...but that was because my PVC valve was already defective...
I replaced it and idle is at the same...neutral or drive...
given engine already warm
if I am just starting it idles at around 1200-1300RPM
oh well..I am confused now...
did they play with your ECU or something...humm..or maybe just that idle screw...do we have one..have to check manual..hehe...

Instructions for adjusting the idle may be found on Steve Cutchen's excellent MaxFAQ page,
http://web2.airmail.net/scutchen/max_faq/

Click on SUBTOPICS below Maintenance.
Click on Adjusting 4th Gen idle speed.

Re: same problem here but fixed

I checked out the steve cutchen web page about the idle speed. I was looking at my engine to see what they were talking about, but the pictures on the web page weren't really detailed. I don't know where the throttle position sensor harness is located. Does anyone have a more detailed picture or instructions about adjusting the idle speed?

if u look at ur engine....and find the throttle body..u'll see two plugs.....one is brown and one is black..if u don't know where the throttle body is hmm....it's toward the wind shield and where the two plugs located there are pulley looking things hehe...unplug the brown one and that's ur real throttle hehe...behind it to ur left i think....u'll see a little black screw hehe....turn it to raise the throttle ^_^
