Here's the story, you be the judge! (all opinions welcome)
Hey,
I have a short tale to tell, and your opinions are appreciated. We're vacationing up in Orlando (went to Islands Of Adventure), and when we get back to the hotel, my buddy's shoes are completely soaked. So instead of calling hotel staff and having them come get his shoes and dry them, (since we were paying over 200 dollars a night, I think we're entitled to a few extras) he puts them in his car and turns the heat on full blast for about 15 minutes, with the engine on. He turns his car off, and goes to turn it back on about 2 minutes later, and nothing happens. No sound from the engine, no clicking, nothing, nada! So I tell him to leave it for an hour, and come back and try. Sure enough, it starts right up, no problem.
So we were stumped as to what the problem was. We tried jumping the car, and that did nothing, we checked the oil...etc. Anyway, this guy who we were with suggests that the engine overheat. I disagreed, saying that the heat would cool the engine, not overheat it. He adimatley disagrees with me and we get into a small argument (yes, i know, it was stupid). So now I would like any opinions on what you think was wrong with the car, and who was right between myself, and this other guy. Thanks for all responses.
The car was a 97 Jetta, automatic. It had just been to the dealership and had a full service.

Wow, you got me!
I think I would agree with you though on the not overheating because if I'm not mistaken, doesn't having the heat on take heat away from the engine, and not draw it into the engine? That is weird though!

That was my exact line of thinking. But if you knew this guy, he's one of those guys who is NEVER wrong, lol. Yeah right.
But we are 100% stumped. His car has been running fine, and made the 2 hour drive back down to Boca in tip-top shape. Anyone else have any opinions?
