I am starting my lil project tommorow, but when I went to Home Depot, I found two different types of grill mesh...one was big...like 3'X 8'...and is kinda flimsy, and the mesh is a lil messed up. The other type is called Gutter Guard. This stuff looked lil bit more rugged, but made me worry due to it's size. It was only 6" X 4' feet long.

It's a 96, so in my searchin it seems as it will be easier, but wonder if I got good enough mesh. I am plannin on Chroming it first..then putting on a couple layers of clear coat. Any info that might help is greatly appreciated....like shortcuts on making the template......Happy 4th all, take care.

I would do the gutter gaurd.. its a bit heavy duty.. paint it with a clear cost first. keep it looking nice through the summer and winter/

I worked w/ the guttergaurd. It's perfect in size. Just make sure you spray paint it w/ silver paint or clearcoat to prevent rusting. Good luck!

I actually found a better material. It's called Kwikmesh, 1/8 galvanized expanded metal roll, it comes in 8" x 25' roll. I have more than enough to make the upper and lower grills. I just finished making the upper and it looks really good. Since it's galvanized it's naturally shinny and will never rust. The roll cost $9. I managed to take pics of it on my kitchen counter. Since its too dark out now, I'll take pics of it on my car tomorrow.

I used black wire ties for now but I will replace it this weekend with steel wires, the really fine ones, to make it more invisible to the eyes.

Sorry, its the damn yahoo photos. Sometimes their public sharing feature doesn't work eventhough it says it could be accessed by anyone even those w/o a yahoo account. I uploaded the pics in my homepage instead.

I'm redoing the whole thing this weekend though, I bought a roll of this stuff enough for several trial and errors. I'm actually going to cut the middle (inner) portion of the grill instead. I just don't like it showing behind the mesh eventhough its barely noticeable. It should look a lot more cleaner then and the ties shouldn't be visible from the outside at all.

i cant see the pics. but i think i have the same thing u have.. i did it 2 laryes though.. painted with black truck bed paint then clear coat. its really stiff so it wont pop in against the wind. i made it 2 layres cause i didnt like the small mesh on the kwikmesh, i put a black home depot mesh grill stuff over it, its kinda flimsly but has larger mesh that i like.. sorry no pics.. mayb some other time.

This works! The mesh looks really good. I know what you mean about not wanting the stuff behind the grill from being obvious to people outside.

I did the gutterguard grill too for the bottom portion of my front end, but I didn't treat it or paint it. How long until it begins to rust? I will pull it out to treat it, but with what? I'm thinking maybe painting it black? or maybe the plain metal look is better. Hmm.

gutter guard protects gutter from crap, so since gutters always get wet(water doesn't cause rust) and are oxposed to OXYGEN, i don't think it rusts.

I think the gutter guard works better for the 97-99 Maximas because of the bar that runs horizontally in the middle of the grill, it's perfect for the shape of the gutter guard. The 95-96 Maxima grill is different, that's why I decided to go with the Kwikmesh.

It won't rust just as kevlo911 had said but it tarnish to a dark gray color. I pulled off my original mesh grill which I did clearcoat & replaced it with another one which I painted AND clearcoated. I used acrylic clearcoat.

Haha, I also bought it at Home Depot, so you can also call this the Home Depot grill (technically). To each his own but the pics just doesn't do justice for what it looks like in real life.
