Are Seat Heaters Worth It ?

I'm having Leather installed ($1000) in the next two weeks and can't quite decide on seat heaters($350). Just looking for opinions. I live in Va.

Thanks

How cold does it get where you are? I know it sounds silly having them in Houston, but for a few weeks in the winter, the temp does drop quite a bit. I like them for lower back warmth (if you overdo it sometimes).

They are a big hit with (and I know this sounds sexist) women when there are combined: cold temps and either short skirts or thin material.

I live in VA, too; I wouldn't mind having heated seats, but it's hard to think about installing them after a week of 95+ temps. I'd say go for it; it does get cold as a witch's t!tty here at times. And in addition to the female factor that jjs mentioned, you can also turn them on for your friends when its 100 degrees out

yep..

love 'em. Funny thing, on a trip if my wife turns hers on she'll fall asleep pretty quickly. One time she was telling me some story about work, I was trying to be nice and turn on her seat for her. She got quiet and nodded off in about 5 mins. Then she woke about about 10 mins later "HEY! you were trying to shut me up!" heh.. no.. but, now that I know that it works..

Don't heated seats crack your leather in the long run? I would never get heated since I'm in southern Cali. Winter here is only for like 2 months.

Re: Are Seat Heaters Worth It ?

Depends on your definition of worth it. From a resale value probably not. From a personal item, you will get different opinions. From a long term reliability issue, don't have a clue.

From the person item part, it came with my car although I wouldn't have chosen it. Given the limited availability for the things I did want, I chose to buy it (factory). I like the steering wheel heater although its useful only a small part of the year in Northern CA. The seat heater part is less useful but it does get used by me and my wife.

Hopefully it won't have a negative impact on the leather seats (as someone I believe here alluded to).

my heated seats less hot

than they do on a hot summer day.

I'm not worried about reduced life. The timer seems to keep the regulated really well.

Bun Warmers....aaaaahhhhhh

Both my Max's have bun warmers. They are Great here in MD. They heat up much faster than the heaters form the engine. Meanwhile the buns and the back get nice and toasty....then I turn them down one notch!

Seat warmer is a nice nice feature if you live somewhere cold, for me, I even think that during long driving, heated seat keep the blood flowing at your back and rear end, make it less tiring.

If you install these as an aftermarket item with leather, would you put the switches in the stock locations. That is the way I'd want it done at least.

I live in Phoenix and they are useful for approximately 9 days out of the year.

The thing that sucks is that sometimes I accidentally turn them on without knowing. This is not cool when it is 100+ degrees outside.

I wish they had a "cooled seat" option like the Lincoln Navigator.

Maybe -40 makes his butt freeze to the seat, so he really needs the heater.

I bought this brand and love it...

Inalfa Sunroof Seat Heaters

I installed a set of these in my wife's Miata. We did it ourselves and it turned out beautifully. They're dual-temp just like the one's from the factory. Cost was approx. $165 to do both seats. I think the factory switches would probably make for a cleaner install in your Maxima but they would run ~$30/switch. The instructions were very easy to follow, and I'm sure an upholstery shop could do it with ease. Go for it.

Heated seats (or the Meridian pkg for that matter) are just plain cool. Even if u never really get a chance to use them, it's still nice to know u could. I'm all for the lux options on the Max!

Worth the money esp w/ leather. I haven't seen any evidence that it reduces the life of the leather, and my in fact may lenghten the life as it make the leather more flexible. If the heater made the seat go from -20C to 40C instantly it might do damage, but the warming is pretty gradual.
