Yeah, it can do it better if you get rid of those stupid 17x7 SLP rims that come with that package and slow the car down lol!

The ram air doesn't do anything aside from giving slightly better highway accel (and the GTPs have weak high end unless you do some work under the hood), the exhaust makes a bit of a difference too ..

The big kicker is the pulley - and chances are most GP owners who know their cars have done this. It's the simplest mod, and the easiest way to add a nice power boost.

Stock to stock, a GTP will eat the 5th gen/4th gen automagic maximas - a properly driven stick is another story though

A GTP with pulley/CAI (including Ram Air)/exhaust will run low 14's... comparable to a properly driven 6 speed stock max. If the GPer knows how to feather the gas pedal properly, he'll be running in the high 13's.

actually, the only max that was able to really beat even a GTP is the 2k2 and up, unless the max is heavily modified. Those things are really dang fast, especially with a few simple mods. the 3.5L evened things up a bit, but it looks like SLP raised the bar a bit more....

FYI... aside from the pulley (past warranty issues), SLP has resold the GTX to dealers for a long time now... I almost bought the package for my second GP :P They brought the 3.5" pulley in about a year and a bit after the introduction of the package (late '98/early '99).

For some reason that statement doesn't sound too professional for a website such as that.

This car can dip into the mid-14s (or faster) in the quarter mile with no trouble at all, rendering it more than brawny enough to *****-slap a stock Nissan Maxima or Altima.

No, ACTUALLY, my stock 5 speed 2K maxima beat a stock GTP.

270hp eh? Thats nice. Thats about what most of those guys get when they do pulley and intake mods anyways. I have seen lots of GTPs putting down 230+ at the wheels and still running 14's. The truth is those cars need that extra power to be even with or slightly past a stock Maxima. In most races it's going to fall back to driver skill between two near stock cars (Maxima vs. GTP)

Would changing the thermostat alone on our cars change anything? According to the article, that was one of the tweaks, but was it done due to one of the other changes? The 2000's have a 180 F thermostat but the thermostat comes with the housing, meaning you can't just change the thermostat, like in most applications.

What is it with idiots posting about contenders on our board? Ooh, SLP GTP has 270HP\280TQ, big f-ing deal. It also costs base $26K plus $3500 for the SLP upgrades. For about the same price, you can get a Stillen supercharged Maxima that makes 300+ HP and will destroy the GTP. And worse of all, it's a Pontiac. Get real people.

A 3.8 liter supercharged V6 is only making 270hp?? That sucks. Is the car pretty fast? You bet, but is it really that impressive? Not really.

Our Vorteched 3.0 liter 4-gens are making just about that hp. Torque might be a little less. Abeit no factory warranty but just goes to show how efficent our dohc engine is.
