I don't know what the 1999 is rated at but 2000-2001 = 222hp @ the crank and 2001 AE is 227hp @ the crank.

MichaelAE I was making a general statement sorry I fixed and maxi's post wasn't there when I posted.

No, [maxi-overdose] was correct. Only the AE is rated at 227...the SE/GXE/GLE 2001's are rated at 222 just like the 2000.

I'm so happy I have that extra five ponies...but just where does it come from...that will always be a mystery. Sort of like mankind. To really understand mankind, we must analyze the word. Mankind is made up of two roots: "mank" and "ind." The meaning of those two words is a mystery and that is why, so is mankind. This is similar to the explanation of where my extra AE ponies come from.

That thread is lovely (I posted in that thread last year along with several others on the topic), but all those debates ended up in the same place...that the muffler is the same on the AE and other 5th gen's (other than the little pointy-down tips). Most all those debates turned up the same thing...that there was no discernible difference between the AE and another SE. That's why I call them my five magical ponies...because they seem to come from nowhere.

Yes MichaelAE is right I read that a while ago and followed it to the same conclusion.

i've always believed it was the muffler, but i suppose one could also call them the five "marketing" ponies since i don't know anyone who's actually gone to the trouble to find out if they're really there.

It is virtually impossible to do it with a dyno unless you actually know what Nissan claims the source to be...take it off...put it back on type of test.

Paul6speed had received a response from Nissan NA about some front muffler which had wider diameter pipes or something...nobody quite understood what the response was all about.
