Totally awesome anti-theft system!!!

For the first time since having installed the blower in my max, I took my dad's Y2K GXE out for a spin today, just to pick up a pizza down the street.... I decided to use the valet key just to make things easier (I always end up using the wrong keyfob since they look the same for my car/his car).....

Anyways, long story short, I left the windows rolled down, and walked in to pick up the pizza... once back outside I reach in through the window, unlock the doors (I could have sworn I locked 'em through the window), and open the passenger door...
MEEEEEEEEEP! There goes the honk-honk of the OEM security system...

Now here's where my problem lies with this purely DETERRENT system : I erroneously stuck the key in the ignition to make the car shut up... and it started the car!!! I was under the impression the ignition is killed until the key unlocks the door!?!? Anyways, since the damn thing was off already for like a minute and everyone was already giving me dirty/weird looks for having the horn blast away, I just decided to drive off with the alarm still going... pretty cool... felt like a real-life version of Grand Theft Auto 3...

My '91 max's ignition was killed when the security system went off.. I guess nissan saved a few bucks and skipped a relay somewhere?

that is bizarre...

its supposed to lock out. hmmmm.. I've heard of other peoples key's working on other maximas.. in fact, my wife works with someone who parked her car on the side of Walmart.. when she came back, her car was gone... she called the police and reported it stolen. The police came and started to fill out a report when they noticed her car parked farther down the lot... they called her an idiot and accused her of forgetting where she parked.. when they got to the car, it had new tires.. yep, the tire shop just grabbed the first white maxima they saw and the key worked! go figure... they let her keep the tires, the cops standing there probably helped.

Re: that is bizarre...

lol!

That sounds like the thing Ford had with their F-150's years ago (at least I THINK it was those - I'm 100% it was one of their pickups though).

Basically some genious got the idea that the same key can be made for about 5 trucks/key; after all, what were the odds? So some guy gets into someone else's pick-up one day and drives a few blocks until he realizes the similar pick-up that was parked next to him was actually his....

... mind you my SE's "unlock" button managed to set off the factory alarm on a Buick LeSabre (mid 90's model).. I hit unlock, alarm goes off.. I wait a few minutes and hit unlock again.. alarm goes off once again on the Buick... I guess the frequencies were similar or something lol.. good thing the buick owner didn't pop my trunk by accident when locking his car eh?

Sometimes I just do that to mess with people, it is really quite fun to see the look on their faces. Every once in a while I get them to look inside my car and then I walk up and get in and ask if I can help them, and they feel so stupid. Remote Keyless entry is gods gift to the devious teenage mind.
