Dixit,
Is there anyone (non-Nissan) that can do this diagnoses for you?
IT would probably help if you could get a printout of what they were supposed to do. You obviously know a lot more about the inner workings of the electrical system than I. I thought there were aftermarket tools for diagnoses that mechanic shops have. I would vindicate your position in this if you could take them (or mail the GM) some proof that they didn't even look.

Just a suggestion..

You can do the diagnoses yourself. I have the Electronic Service Manual that shows you how to do it.

I am going to do it and pinpoint it myself.

Anyway
No, I think you made a very valid point about people trying to one over on service. Its that whole condescending part that almost every Nissan SM I've dealt with has. I've never seen anything like it. It really strikes a chord with me. I've even known SMs from say Honda, move over to Nissan and start acting like a jerk.

Theres really only one common denom here, NofNA. The one decent SM I have (40 min drive), even gets dodgy sometimes. He acted like Nissan refuses to cover parts they swap. While I think car lots are inherently evil, I know these guys are between a rock (NNA) and a hard place (you). I cant count the number of times I've had to call myself to grease the wheels with NNA to get something done. In fact, if you say to a SM "I've already called and made my case with NNA - they said you can call for an engineering consult, its on file" they will actually relax ALOT.

Seriously, I think if the SM just threw a new SECU in there, he'd be stuck with it (and the cost). Obviously he has to call Nissan first for approval. I've heard that can be like pulling teeth.

The mocking cant be excused. at all. But these crappy SM are being made this way. NNA needs to fix this, not us.

well, if mods had to do with them treating you so bad, then they should not have taken your car in for service in the first place. It is very obvious that your car is modded. But they held it up for 4 hrs. Dixit whats the name of the dealership? Nissan West?

YES! People like that don't need to be in jobs where customer service skills are used everyday.

right or wrong. That servie rep lost the fight when he disrespected the customer. No matter what, that is not acceptable.

That is the major issue here.

Well right off the bad he did not really want to help me when he saw all the stuff I had done to the car. He said he will not perform anymore work without me authorizing diagnosis which will not be covered under warranty. I got ****ed and argued with him on the phone, he started saying all this stuff about how it is most likely due to something I did and the fact he aint never seen this before, means it is something I did. I told him, just give my car back and I am going to another dealer.

I went to pick it up and went there to start a war too, Well he started telling me it is my fault, and I said I will get it done somewhere else where they respect people. He said well not if I write it on your file and cancel your warranty. I started stuttering (i do that when I am ****ed and high blood pressure) and he seriously made fun of it by imitating me like "What What What, nothing, you straight out of luck" That upset me and I I started cursing and him and 2 other guys told me to leave the premises and escorted me out with my car waiting.

I cant believe that **** tried to threaten me in cancelling my warranty. I am gonna have it out with the Service Manager and the GM tommorow along with Nissan America. He got no idea who he just messed with.

Dixit, sounds like your SECU might be defective. I had a problem where in my trunk kicked open every time a door was opened. I took it to the dealer and had to argue with the Ser. writer because I had an aftermarket alarm installed. Took the guy supposedly 8 hours to diagnose it and he still said the aftermarket install blew the SECU. Finally the GM came through and told them to replace it under warranty and if it failed again for the same problem then they'd charge the car audio shop for labor.....9 mos. later no problems and the GM sent me a notice for free service next time in and a birthday card for my Max! You're gettin screwed, just handle it with a level head and you'll be OK.

Sounds like my random fuel door opening problem. I'm still thinking I bump the button getting in/out, but it happens too often.

Oh about the earl analysis. The company emailed me and said:

Thanks for your E-mail. We will send you a test kit in the mail as soon as possible. Due to the overwhelming number of requests, we are running behind in shipping them out. If you need to sample your oil before it arrives, just store it in a clean container and transfer it to ours. Storage will not affect the analysis. Looking forward to doing business with you.

Sorry to hear about that man. That's just not right. Maybe next time you go in there, put a mini-tape recorder in your pocket so if he says anything bad, you got him on tape.

Sorry to hear that. I thought that after being here for a while you've got prepared for Nissan service . Is it possible to set up dealership list with rates which gets assigned based on .org members experiences? I'd love to make couple entries as well. They actually made DIY mechanic out of me - nothing to complain about, right?

Mods...

Hate to be the bad guy here, but:
1) The mods are quite likely to blame
2) Nissan should not be expected to pay for repairs that are the result of mods. Clearly, you are using the electrical system in a manner in which it was not designed.
3) Part of the universally understood risk in modifying anything is that the likelyhood of failure increases as the number of modifications increases.

You should unplug as much of the extraneous stuff as possible. Then get busy with a multimeter. You probably have a wire that fried as the result of running too much current through it.

the major mistake you made was making your car look heavily modified. but i agree on the fact that the dealer was just a buncha jerks. a major reason why i wont be purchasing another nissan for quite some time. next time you goto a dealer, bring a tape recorder - it really is the best way to go.

Tape recorders are illegal in many states as they are in MD. Only acceptable if both parties agree. I know this because this is what my company does.

Hmmmm...check into this before you throw out the idea. What "illegal" may mean is that you can't use it in a criminal court prosecution. It's a by-product of your 4th amendment rights against unreasonable searches and seizures against the government. Whether or not you could us it against someone in a private-party civil lawsuit may be another question.

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM

Had the same exact problem in my i30 where id open one sun visor light, and on my dash the door open and trunk light went on 50%, but when i opened my other sun visor at the same time and those 2 light's lit up 100%. SO the next day I brought it to infiniti, customer satisfaction manager personally valets it to a spot, gets out and comments on the nice stereo system ( got MB Quart Premiums) and my rims, while observing the problems. All is good i thought so I left the car there, took my free rental i35( love the customer service) and was on my way. Later that day when I got the call my car was ready, the service manager tells me that the problem was when they put in the audiovox alarm system at the dealership they stripped some wire and it hit a peice of the metal in my car. He actually went as far to say how the dealership is sorry for that inconvience and gave me the keys to my just-washed-i30. Times like this where jealousy of u max owners with all ur aftermarket support really doesnt matter lol...

Okay, thanks for the info. Now What did you do to fix this? Did they have to replace the SECU unit? or some inline fuse?
