Jittery feel in the Steering Wheel

I own a 2K2 GLE and I was wondering if any other owners were experiencing this. When you go over large cracks in the road, does your steering will shift from left to right under your hands. It seems kinda scary when I'm on the highway goin 80 and the steering seems to move when it hits a large crack. Just wonderin if this is normal? Thanks guys.

I think this falls under the TSB of the tranverse link that needs to be fixed.

Very odd since I thought all the 2k2s needed to have that fixed.

Totally Stock! So I'm guessing none of you really have this problem on the stock cars?

maybe its due to being front wheel drive? my rear wheel drive never did this, but in my 2k2, when i hit even reflectors, i feel the wheel move a little. kinda scares me 2.

i noticed this too. and my 2k2 was not affected by the transverse link recall either. i feel that this steering wheel jitter is basically because the car isn't meant for ***** to the wall handling, and hence, by design, just isn't as stable as we would hope.

yup....same here...i own a 2k2 and the first time i took it out, i tought i was going to run into the centerdivider cuz the steering wheel went all crazy on a turn...freaked me out....not even my 95 CHEVY corsica duz this....its not the front wheel drive factor, its the maxima~ the steering felt really loose, too loose... isn't the speed sensitive sttering suppose to make the steering wheel harder to turn at high speeds....what happend to the speedsensitive steering....i dont see a difference between my cars steering and my friends TL

Phew! I thought I was the only one. Yeah I agree this is not a front wheel drive problem since we used to have a 1998 Taurus whose steering was impecable and on center at all times no matter the speed. Anybody talked to the dealer about this?

I have that problem in my 97 and 02 as well, the steering wheel moves and you can feel just about everything from the road in the steering wheels. I have gotten use to it and every Maxima I have driven has done this.

hmmmmmm Get a FSTB.... I haven't noticed this in my 97 GXE, but sounds weird.... WAY OT: But our Taurus feels like it's going to switch lanes on it's own whenever i hit a tiny bump going over 100km/h... Then again, you can turn the wheel about 3 cm each way without the wheels turning at all Oh well, i ain't spending $$$ on a winter beater

No I just picked up this car 2 months ago and the car is in perfect condition, not even a scratch. Does the FTSB harshen the ride at all? I hate the feeling, it feels so unsafe.

It's definitely something that can change... my 93 GXE always had a pretty loose steering wheel, compared to other cars I've driven, but it still felt stable going over freeway bumps with one hand on the wheel. But recently my Max had a collision and had to have the right front axle and wheel bearing replaced.. and since then it's really lose. Cracks and angles in normal streets cause the wheel to twist back and forth. Not acceptable to me, I'm still looking into what needs to be done to tighten it up, though..

I've got the SE, so we can't compare, but mine also had some 'jitter' to it. I found that playing with the air pressure was the only thing that really helped. My car had the Transverse TSB done and that tightened the steering a fair bit, but it was still jittery. Last week I installed Firehawk SZ50EP's on the car and that seems to have eliminated the jitter. The Firehawks are so much smoother/quieter than the RE92's, it's quite amazing.

If I were you, I'd try lowering the air pressure to ~30 front ~28 rear. See how that goes.
