Red bulbs for clear side markers and silicone

Everyone has been saying that all the red 194 bulbs out there all look pink when used in the clear side markers. Is it really that bad? Can someone post a pic of the "pinkness"? Are there any bulbs that are less pink looking than others? What about the red LEDs? Also, where exactly do I put the silicone on the sidemarkers? Does it go along the edges?

Thanks guys,
J.

bulbs look pink yep, some are better than others Polarg seem to be the best.

LEDS are red but don't put out a lot of light. A red dot in your light.

Put the silicone around where the clear lens meets the grey/white housing. When you put it in your car the silicone should be covered. I only siliconed one light after I got condensation.

I tried LEDs. I didn't like them.

I tried Polarg's. they were too blue.

Now I removed the side marker bulbs entirely and it looks much better......

i have polarg whites in the front and the red LED's in the back. I got the brighter of the LED. (4 vs.1) During dusk it looks like crap. It only fills up a small portion of the lens and looks a little pink, however when night comes it looks as close to the factory look as you are going to get. I've read about siliconing the clear markers, but i havent done that and I live in an area where we get lots of rain. There fine, no moisture in the bulb at all. Good luck searching for bulbs, but I would go with the LED Brights!!!

I've had PIAA Xtreme White 168's in my sidemarkers since February of this year. The front bulbs have started to fade a little, but they rears are still the same color as when I first bought them. I was looking for a pure white light, but the Xtreme Whites have more of a bluish tint to them. I was going to try using LED bulbs (either white or amb/red) but I probably will just stick with what I have.

The only clear sidemarker housing out of my four that's having condensation problems is my front driver's side, all the rest are fine. How do I get rid of the condensation that's inside the housing already before I silicone the sides?

The whitest bulb that I have found is what I have on my car right now and they are PIAA super plasma bulbs. Look good, especially from a distance and they are really really bright

after searching... it seems that the later clear markers have solved teh condensation problems...
Well, at the very least... mine has not condensed... yet...

There are many solutions to dry them out... Put it under a heat lamp... Heat up the oven... stick it in... ahut off the oven... um... blow a/c air into it... use the desicants that u find in food... (you know those white packs that u find in dried food with the "do not eat" written all over it.)

list goes on... but try these three...

I used the heat lamp, cuz my oven broke...

I bought a bunch of LEDs at radio shack and made the leds myself to fit in the clip that holds the bulb. I soldered 4 12V red LEDs together and bent the leads for each light.

Binky says thanks.

What brand of LEDs did you use? Were they JamStrait leds? Those are the ones I was looking at. They're soooo expensive though. $8.80 for EACh bulb. Plus shipping too.

I have no idea what led's i have in my clears ...the clears came with the led's but the red led does show up as pink through the clear lens

I was thinking about hitting the led's with some bloodthirsty red fingernail polish....but I don't know how polish holds up to heat
I thought LEDs were not supposed to get very hot.

My clears are on the way. I also ordered a pair of amber and a pair of red LEDs, the ones with 4LEDs on each one. I plan to silicone them before I even put them in, and I'll let you guys know how the color is.

Are those the extra-bright ones? I ordered amber and red LEDs from autodynamic.com but they have one big, round bulb with a flat top. I overheard some say the extra bright ones (with 4 small bulbs) look pink. Yes...let us know. My clears are on the way, too.

Oh, and I ordered blue LED lights for my dome light and step lights as well.

Hey triple 8, you got the 4 led super bright ones right? They do look really really good. Looks better than stock IMO. The only problem I ran into is that LEDs dont seem to work in the side markers of my car. One of mine burned out and one was blinking non stop. It was weird, I couldnt figure out what was doing it, but it was. Let me know how they are doing after a couple weeks, cuz mine crapped after about 3.

I'm ordering clears soon but I'm keeping the factory bulbs due to the police around here they love harassing cars with modds. What color will the factory bulbs be with the clear side markers?

I did that for the first two weeks I had my clear sidemarkers, and I bet that you will swap out the stock bulbs almost as fast as I did with mine. They are a horrible amber color and make the clear corners look real bad. I've seen so many people driving around NY/NJ with the stock bulbs with clear sidemarkers, and I always laugh at them.

What is a legal alternative then. If I can't keep the markers legal there is no reason to get the clear side markers.

Get the lenses, and just don't put nay bulbs into them. Then you look good during the day and you're in stealth-mode at night

I don't have the clears yet, but has anyone considered trying those little rubber boots over a red bulb or even a stock bulb. I had a friend with a tahoe who replaced the door bulbs with blue ones. He had the same problem you guys are having. He then tried the little blue rubber boot that slides over the OEM bulb. He loved it. I'll try to see where he got them.

Also for you TX car owners. In September, the Dept. of Transportation modified its color requirement statutes. They did away with specific color requirements and have simply gone to a "If its not DOT approved, it ain't legal state of mind." Some troopers are even taking it as far as "If it didn't come on the car like that, it ain't legal." This is just fair warning of some resistance you might run into. But just so you know, I'm a local police officer, and I'm still considering the clear corners. Just cause I'm gonna do it still doesn't make it right though.

I left mine red in the rear and only clear in the front after one year the condensation has finally struck. I guess I can use a blow dryer to dry the water and then silicone them up.

red bulbs

So, the Polarg M21s aren't too pink huh? Does anyone know if the APC red 194s are good? not pink? I saw them at Murrays today for just like $6/pair instead of paying over $12 for the polargs. Are the polargs really that much better? Have you guys used the amber bulbs that came with the sidemarkers? I think I'll just do that.

I just bought some amber APC LEDs from Autozone and they are the exact same "urine color" of the ones that came with the sidemarkers except they don't give out as much light. I'm returning the LEDs and using the bulbs that they came with. They don't look bad at all to me. Maybe the Polarg amber bulbs are darker in color? I dunno but I'm sticking with these for the time being.

Well, the Polarg Ambers are supposed to have a richer and deeper color, and match the OEM color much better... but then again, I should quit making these purchases until my cash is a bit better... oh yeah... I got promoted at work today... yippee for me... maybe the mods will come sooner...

Yep, I'm doing the exact same. I'm using the amber bulbs until they burn out and getting polargs. I'm currently winning the bid on the red polarg bulbs on ebay. How much did you pay for yours?

Thanks

I got my clears in this week. They look great! I purchased LED bulbs (red & amber) and I could hardly see them at all. I'm using the colored bulbs that came with the lenses and they seem just fine to me. I hope they don't burn out any time soon!
