Knock, Knock...it's my Frankencar Intake!

Hi all,

I have a 2002 SE. Installed the Frankencar intake in May and life was good.

The bad news...

About a month ago the Max starts knocking when going up hills with the AC on. It got worse. A few days ago it would knock really loudly when I pulled out in 1st.

I was planning to take it to the dealer for a look-over, so I put the stock intake back on. After two days of driving I haven't heard a single knock. What's more, the Max seems to run better.

Any comments or advise?

(yes, the Frankencar was still installed properly/tightly and everything was clean)

I noticed that if not positioned or bent properly the bracket will hit the brake line where it runs along the strut tower. It makes a sound like CV joints going bad, clunk knock knock
I used one of the rubber washers with the sleve insert from the OEM box mount to provide space.

I think he's talking about spark knock, and I had it too with my Hot air intake on, I put my stocker back on, and no more pinging.

buzek. Thanks, but I checked that. Everything was tight. It was definitely an engine noise.

Interesting to hear that other people are hearing pinging noises.

Frankencar is getting a call...
