I can tell you we don't make the Maxima here in Smyrna, TN, yet! As of right now, we are the only plant in the US. Ford makes the Quest van for us. In the next few years when the Mississippi plant is completed then the Quest van or it's replacement will be built there.

Made in Japan

It's 95% Japanese content. I'm not sure where the other 5% comes from. Maybe the tires and port installed options?

I'm more concerned about the engineering than who puts it together. Look at the excellent Toyota plant in KY.

I am pretty sure that the other 5% means "final assembly". Final assembly takes place in Los Angeles. Not sure what final assembly means...but all they probably do is put on the front and rear bumbers and other odds and ends. It would make sense to ship them that way, since we have different specs for the bumbers here. They could probably fit more on the ship that way too.

I've talked with Japanese tuners, who constantly make trips over and bring back stuff. The 5th gen was made for US spec only. Assembly takes place in Japan but panels, bumpers, etc.etc. and such takes place in the US. The 5th gen doesnt exist in Japan....even the 5th gen itself was penned by american hands....this would explain the wack *** taillights=D

I don't think so....

The Maxima IS driven in Japan as the Cefiro! It has the Infinity I30 front and headlights though. It is also driven in parts of Europe! I also know that it is in Italy with a 4-cylinder option!!

I have to agree. I am not sure which 4 cylinder they put in it there.

In Italy the Maxima is known as the "Maxima QX".

The maxima is in the middle east also, Its a I30 body with Nissan Maxima badges on it.
Next time U look at a Dealer sticker on a car. Look on the right hand side, all those options installed on the car are installed when the car Ports to the US and gets sent to a dealer. Over here in the east cost Well in my area anyways the cars port at NewPort Neuse, VA. Thats where they install the Goods that dealers request and have them sent to the dealer with the dealer names on the sticker.
