Spanked a Z3..was I lucky?

Getting onto I-5 South this morning, I see this newer black Z3 tailing me on the Road that leads up to the entrance ramp. This one laner road split into 2 and he pulls out to the right lane to make the pass. I let him get even (we are doing about 30MPH at this point) and we both floor it. I thought he would have been faster but I easily took him and pulled a car length in a matter of seconds. I heard him revving and saw the front of his little Bimmer raised up so I know he was flooring it. We kept at it until 90. I was 3-4 carlengths ahead by this point and then I let off the gas and he flew by. Except for my K&N I am stock, and this was a newer Z3, I could tell by the headlights and grill. Did I get lucky or are they that slow?

a 2.5 is slow, a z3 3.0 would be able to beat any stock maxima. i hear the 3.0's are right around 14 seconds flat, and some dip into the high 13's, stock.

The Z3 3.0s Manuals are no joke. They would give a 2k2 Manual a run for its money.

My friend has a 2.5. I have a 2000 SE. We were pretty much even (I had a slight edge but very slim). I think it's cause he has trouble going from first to second or something. Overall, it came down to the driver.
Therefore, a 2002+ could easily spank a 2.5
