MAF went bad!! is it safe to...

I am a courier and need my car 7 days a week. Would it be safe to drive in safe mode?? just very carefully i guess? I think I am running rich on fuel also cause it doesnt smell quite right after I try to accelerate from a few red lights...

Ken at Jerry Rome Nissan is the place to go to btw if you need the sensor replaced. I think someone quoted 62.50 + shipping at Courtesy mine was for 58.50 + shipping. Just use search for the part # and the tel #...

Do you have a K&N? MAF's rarely go bad. Take the MAF and clean it off with brake cleaner and some type of swab (Q-Tip). The MAF will resemble lightbulb filament, that is the part that measures air. When oil (from K&N) gets on it, it will foul the reading, run rich, and trigger a SES. I have this happen quite a bit on my Explorer running a K&N.

Almost forgot, don't drive it like this for long. Rich fuel can eventually foul your O2 sensors.

they may rarely go bad on other vehicles but ours are extremely sensitive to the oil. ive seen posts on people saying they are going to use some type of cleaning method but ive never seen a post where it worked before. i have heard they have a new maf sensor at nissan and supposedly its a different part number from before. ive been running a franken/berk setup with k&n and no trouble yet but that what everyone thinks til you hop it and it wont rev past 2k rpms.

Yeah, I here the same thing but I think the dealership is BS'ing from what I have heard here (MAF destroyed). I would not hesitate to try cleaning the MAF with a Q-tip then reset the computer and see what it does. Worst case scenario, you have to go to the dealer for a faulty MAF.

The oil does nothing to hurt, corrode, or destroy the MAF. It simply coats the sensor (filament looking wire) which determines air speed/temp. When coated with oil, the readings are altered sending the SES light. Cleaning the oil off should return it to normal.
