245/45/17 on OEM STOCK 17" ?????

I'm selling my rims and tires and going back to my stock 17", but i'm currenlty looking for a different tire size, since the tire that i want is not available in 225/50/17. Here is a pic of one close to my stock size (245/45/17) I was wondering if anyone here used 245/45/17 on their stock 17" and if any pics can be posted would be appreciated very highly. Also let me know how the ride feels. Is there any buldge if i go with this size and brand? PS. my car is very low and i'm affraid that i gonna bend these rims soon in NYC area. I wish not to ride them in the winter either..am selling them if anyone interested..

nah am dead serious ...my car is low. i never seen a 5th gen max in my area this low . there is a few out here in NYC, but not lowered than mine..with my agx and progress my car is very very low and even when i set my agx to the lowest settings my rims hits hard on potholes . i wish not to bend them so i'm selling them. i have more confidence in the stock SE 17" rims...they will scratch, but not break or bend that easy... too bad i was not living in CA or FL where you guys have all the good roads...

That's soooooo not what he's talking about.... see this in his sig "Nickname: Master of All Things Rubber"?

Long story short: 245/45/17 should not be used on a 7" wide rim. The widest you can safely go is 225.

there are tons of threads about this but you can run 235 tire AS LONG as its a 235/50/17. the problem is that you are lowered and im sure that would rub. there are tons of tires that id love to have but they dont make them in sizes that i need for our stock 17's. i picked up some michelin pilot A/S in 235/50/17 but im not lowered.

yeah i wish they make hmmm in 225/50. i like the sumotomo HTR+, but they also not available in 225/50...they have them in 235 and 245's, i need to know which ones would not cause my clock to change.. i want something that will bring up the size close to 225/50's if you know what i mean. and as far as 235/50's my car is too low and will rub...

...don't go with a 245 size, its too wide on a stock 7" wide wheel.

I have 235/40/17 and my max is lowered, the ride is a little harsher but I like it that way. Ya, the famous speedo error, euhm it's like a ask me if I care question... anyway the max speedometer prolly have 5-6% error margin, for me it doesn't matter at all. Tire size now, for 235 or 245 tire size your suppose to have 7.5 - 8.5 inche wide wheel, this way you wont die, it's written on the manufacturer statement... I'm one of the few guinea pig that doesn't respect all and every rule, I dont promote my set-up to others, I just share my own experience and after 20 thousand km, I have had no problem at all.

Getting ready to take the heat...

I have 234/45/17 on my OEM's and have a fine ride. No noticable tire bulge from the front of the car since the originals. Normal tire ware. And still a smooth ride. Try the Toyo Proxes FZ4's

It is kinda ironics, many are ready to flame us for different tire set-up, but would never say a word about people having over used tire on their car and driving real unsafe car their the one that are dangerous but no word about it, it is alway easier to hit the honest guy who express his opinion, knowing he will get flame. I have been doing different tire set-up for over 20 years and I never had a single flat tire in my life nor an exploded tire, there is a reason for a tire to explode it is moslty due to defective tire, bad road, pothole and debris and dont forget excessive speed on the wrong road, you guy should stop this mytical thinking otherwise you will stay ignorant for the rest of your life.

Cheers

1. Nice thread bump. 18 years is impressive.
2. Wrong section. 06 is a 6th gen. Don't know what wheels you have.
3. if 17x8 you'll be fine.

riding too low does has it's down side. why not just save yourself the hassle and time and just go with a different 225/50..

I'm about to throw some 255/40-18 on my 02 6 speed, I have 350Z touring wheels and lowered with Megan racing springs...

I can tell you a professional shop won't do that for you! 245's minimum preferred/allowed wheel width is 8"...Discount won't do it for me 2 years ago! I ran 245/40/18 on 18 x 7.5" rims for 10+ yrs and one day Discount said NO! So they said they were wrong for installing 245's on the 7.5" rim and that Discount would replace the Nitto 555 for free but they would be 235/40/18's and I said HELL NO! I'll buy wider rims TSW Bathurst Gun Metal grey https://www.tsw.com/alloy_wheels_bathurst.php, and my traditional NITTO 555+ 245/45/18....
Apparently something happened and Discount was sued because they're strict as hell now with their policy and what they let leave out of the facilities! Good luck!
