New method on my ghetto intake :)

I removed the air-filter holder and mounted the stock filter inside using plastic that I cut from something else. I removed the ENTIRE front ram section of the intake so now it only has that little box where the filter is located and the tube that runs to the throttle body. Before I still had the front ram hooked up and It was deeper in sound. The only thing I hated about that is it was TOO loud at high RPMs that It sent a resonance through the car that can be felt through my entire body, curiously, the seats, steering wheel, basically the whole car never vibrated. I felt a BIG power loss down low, midrange picked up more and top end seemed more sound than acceleration.

Now with the front section removed, the car is LESS loud and boomy and slightly more mechanical. It still has that deep roar and now I can hear it better with slight throttle movements. At high RPMs, its really singing. The thing with this setup is that my car now has new found low RPM power felt through my butt. Midrange feels the same as stock but the high-end is where it feels more positive. This is all butt dyno though. I should take it to the track to see how it does. With this set-up, the exhaust has more character. Its more growly and louder than stock, especially at light throttle.

On another note, I had my first race with this setup...

Stop light taking left. There are two lanes to take a left and next to me was a kid with blasting mooosik in the last gen Grand Prix SE with that GTP body cladding package. I take off as usual when the light is green and this kid is at my rear door most of the way through the turn. When it got straight, I hear him punch his car. He was right next to me when I slammed it into 1st. The transmission went sluggish and stupid on me and didn't downshift until I was at his rear. By 60mph I was a car length on him. I slowed down and so did he. Now he's right beside me and he floors it again. I'm at his rear bumper this time and I slam it into 1st, FINALLY the friggen thing cooperates. He looks over at my hood (Intake was LOUD!) I catch up and get about 1/2car length on him by 50mph but then there was a redlight and we stopped. Here is what I think is proof that this intake yeilded more TQ...

Right off the line I spun like I never spun before. But once I grabbed I REELED him in until we where side-by-side and he braked and turned off. Usually when I race these cars with my stock intake, they would get abotu 3/4 through most of 1st gear even if I'm careful with the throttle. I usually catch up and pass as soon as I'm at the top of 1st gear.

My cousin has a friend who has a 300ZX 2+2 automatic N/A and we are getting together later on tonight to race along with a couple people, one of whom also has a 300ZX only its a 2+0 5speed N/A. Other cars that are going to be there: 1996 SHO ATX, 1993 SHO ATX, 97 GSR MTX, 95 Max ATX, 91 Max MTX, 93 Max MTX, GSX MTX, GST MTX, GT V6 Tib. Supposidly we are meeting out on a country road in front of his house. No one hardly travels that road after 11p.m. so we'll have fun
