smoked the tires..now have shaky ride

Ok, so took a friend of mine for a ride yesterday. showing off, I accidentally lit the tires up pretty good starting from a standstill. Now, I am getting a good bit of vibration over 60 mph. I checked and nothing seems to be obviosly out of whack. Is this vibration just from the tires?

By 'obviously' what do you mean?? Did you check to see if the wheel weights are intact (so that the balance hasn't been thrown off)?

no....have not checked that..good idea....by obviously I mean checking highly visible problems...cv joints, shaking tires (listening to hub bearings, etc.)

Ah!

I would at first think it would be a weight issue. A good number of members here, including myself, have only the stickon type of weights on the inner surface of the back of the wheel which make it much less likely a weight will 'go flying'...however some members have reported both the stickon kind and the conventional 'rim' weight.

Which set-up do you have?

your wheels got out of balance. It happened to me after a heavy race date. I guess the wheel can shift inside the tire as a result of hard spinning.

As we are on the topic of balancing; can Nissan balance my wheels? I called my dealer today to make an appt for a balancing. The tech told me because my wheels are aftermarket they might not be able to balance them because they might not fit in the balancing machine.

Is this true???

What I don't understand is if the Z comes with 18x9 (I think) why can't they balance my 18x8 wheels?

Are you sure alignment isn't an issue here?
