2k2 First Oil Change...Only 2.5qts came out!!!
I just did my first oil change right now at 2,300 miles and boy was the oil black...I was surprised to find out when pouring the used oil in the containers I just poured the new oil from that I was only able to fill 2 1/2 quarts...this worries me. Is it possible that I burned 1.75 quarts of oil or is it possible that it wasn't filled properly from the factory?? Should I worry about any damage that might of taken place with this little oil that came out?
Keep in mind I drive hard and I just filled the car with Mobil 1 synthetic so hopefully it won't happen again with the good oil in it.
Also, I used the Purelator PureOne PL14622 filter...seem to fit like a glove if anyone is interested.

My bet is that it will use oil with the Mobil 1 as well.

You may want to check the bypass specs of the Purolator PL14622 to ensure it is at least 14psi and not the 8-10psi as in some of their others. Also, the PureOne is reputed to be a high flow resistance filter although it is great at filtering. Further, it has a top bypass valve design which will put dirty oil back into the oil channels during bypass operation.
You may want to consider the Bosch 3323(same size as the 2k/2k1 filter or about 3/4" larger in length and presumably filtering media) that has both synthetic and cellulose filtering media as opposed to the PureOne all cellulose(and thus the higher resistance). Other have also recommended the stp 6941. Another alternative is the Purolator Premium Plus L14610 although it does not filter down to the same micron level as the Bosch, STP or PureOne.
Some have also used the Mobil M-110 although I am unaware of the specs and/or fit on this one. It is indeed a good filter though in all respects.

Checked and the PL14622 has a good bypass psi of 14-18 so your're ok here. You might just want to rethink the PureOne. Another stock replacement alternative is the Bosch 3300 and filters almost as well as the PureOne without the restrictive oil flow potential and has the baseplate bypass. They are about the same price.

When I say top/dome, I mean the end that does not have the hole and rubber gasket it in. When I say baseplate, I mean the end that does have the hole and rubber gasket in it.
I believe the stp 6941 has a baseplate bypass(which is good) but the Purolator PureOne has a top/dome bypass. I'm not sure on the Purolator Premium Plus. The Mobil 1 and Bosch Premium have the baseplate or bottom mounted bypass.
I've read that most of the Japanese OEMs do not specify a baseplate bypass valve location but for example, Ford does and many of the European cars do. It appears to be a OEM thing. In any case, however, the baseplate(where the hole is) location is preferable as previously noted and is used in general by Mobil 1, Bosch Preimium and STP(all made by Champion).
