i doing about 60 down the gsp and a guy with shades in a black gtp slowly cruises past me i glance over to admire his car{always liked the gtp}and the driver looks at me then down at my car and sneers at me .i have 2 passengers and he's alone, i thought i was going to get smoked but wth .so i hit my horn and pace him , he floors it and i go to 3rd and proceed to reel him in and make the pass about the middle of 4th then slow for traffic. we raced 2 more times with the same results he just would'nt give up .this race was over a little quicker than the last gtp i raced when i only had about 1900 miles ,only at 5300miles now

yes. a GTP is the grand prix with the 3.5 lit. super charge engine... one of the top Maxima compepeitor...

thank you, but this is a funny thing. i am glad that i bought a
max, and that i came to this site. I work with this
guy who has a grand prix. and he's talking about how noone
respects you if you have single exaust. we had a long
discussion about it. I had to point out to him that the
BMW M3 is single and so is the toyota supra (i know they are
straight 6's) But yabbing about how fast his car is, and how the
duals are the key. I told him i would race him in my V6 accord,
and if he wins i'll bring out the max. and For the most embarasing
race. My wifes 1990 VW cabrio, With a custom t3/t4 turbo and 50
shot NOS. did i mention that the VW is yellow?

 

Buy a GTP and get a free AARP sticker or double rainbow license plate frame.
I'm surprised they don't produce more power than that. I guess they can always change the size of their pulleys for more power.

someone from work told me that pontiac is coming out with a V8 grand prix. special edition only with like 370 hp .
don't know how true ,but i guess they are trying to stay at the top for fast sedan.

GTP type care that will replace the Trans Am. Currently I see it is rated at just under 300hp. The scheduled street date for these are May 2004.

 

Pontiac is NOT coming out with a V8 Grand Prix. They have a prototype of a Grand Prix that is tweaked a little and it has the same 3.8 V6 supercharged to 280hp/280tq. It is very close to production. Their G8 show car did have a sweet V8 and AWD package. That car will NOT go in to production.

I know a lot about these cars because I was considering the GTP before I purchased my Max.

Now a car to fear in the near future Pontiac line up is the Pontiac GTO. It has the LS1 V8 and I think a 6sp tranny. The current LS1 V8s are making like 320HP from the factory. That will be a fast car! It is actually an Austrailian GM car. They have some bada$$ cars over there. Imagine a four door sedan about the size of an intrepid, with 18's and the LS1 from the factory!

Last time I checked, the Nissan Skyline has a single exhaust. Think he'd beat one? hahaha, no. Just inform him of that, and he will understand. lol

 

GTP's aren't really known for their top end power. and a gtp with a stock pcm can't do more than 108 at WOT. it can do 126 stock but not full throttle. the only reason it only has 240hp and 280tq from the factory is becuase the transmission can't take anymore torque than that. its real easy to bump the power up. intake, pulley, and catback will next over 30 wheel hp. with those mods i went from ~196fwhp to 227.3fwhp. i should be pushing about 240 or so to the ground now with my new pcm. 6spds are a good race for me. theres one on here that i'm really close to. he always pulls me on the topend tho.

 

Remember too that the GTP only comes in 4 speed auto. I'd like to see someone strap a 6-speed manual to one, that would be a nice car.

 

I did race my friends GTP from a roll and he beat me by a car, but he is got mods done to his car (pulley itself on a supercharged car is like 20 hp). then when we raced from a dead stop I had him by a car all the way to a 100 and he did not close on me at all.

 

This is funny. I just went to Montreal and back today, and the car we rented was a Grand Prix GT.

Upon seeing the inside of the car, I said to my co-worker: "Who the hell would by this car?" especially considering its not that much cheaper than a Max or Altima. My co-worker, having seen the inside of my 2k2 6-spd, heartily concurred.

Wind noise was terrible, and all we heard on our way down was the droning of what I assume to be the exhaust. Sound came from the back of the car, and matched the gas pedal inputs.

On a side note, got a chance to have a look inside a Camaro Z28 today as well. Hey, if that's faster than the Max, you can keep it.

I really didn't think I was so stuck on the interior of my car and ride comfort. Kinda saw myself as somebody who bought two Maximas because of the performance. But man, seeing the interior of these GM cars made me realize that I wouldn't buy an all out performance car with a crappy interior.

Next car, G35 Coupe.

The GTP's are nice cars. They have that typical Pontiac Cockpit look inside. I had a WS6 Trans Am, so I know that most pontiacs look alike inside... I know there are lots of mods out for them. But the more you mod them, makes them break down a lot too... According to some GTP guys Ive spoken to... I stock VS a 2K2 auto or 6 speed, should be a Maxima win most of the time...
