18x8 47mm offset work? help wanted

I am thinking of getting a set of wheels, but I am not sure if 18x8 w/ a 47mm offset will work.

47 offset is a little high.... if it rubs, you may need spacers.... but maybe it will work fine....

How does the number work? The larger the number the further in the wheel goes, or the larger the number the further out the wheel goes?

Correct. If you want the wheel more flush with the fender you want a lower offset # than stock. But not to low because then it will rub, I would say between 35-38.
