Why is my car SLOWER then when it was STOCK??? *timeslip included*

Ok when I was stock I ran a 15.9**....(I have the timeslip at home so I'll post all the detailed stuff for this time later)

Now I went to battle of the imports yesterday to check out the cars & they said you can enter your car in the 'fun run' for $25 more to see your times....so i said what the hell why not, its been over a year since my last run....and this is what I get (me manually shifting was worse...16.3**) :

R/T- 1.005
60'- 2.446
330- 6.823
1/8- 10.387
MPH- 69.61
1000- 13.435
1/4- 16.048
MPH- 86.82

Ok I'm pretty sure I didnt spin either....I go around the water when coming up to the line.....I have it revving around 2000 till I see the 3rd yellow light & gun it...also I have an auto & just leave it in drive w/ o/d OFF.

Changes on my car from over a year ago when I ran a 15.9....I have 18" Mille Miglia's, Body Kit, Leather Seats, Stillen Exhaust, Frankencar Midpipe, w/ JWT Pop Charger (and lots of minor crap that dont really add weight).

P.S. - I had my stock airbox on my car & when I decided I will run the car-- fellow org member 'BriGuyMax' helped me install my midpipe & JWT popcharger in the lot. Something I remember is that going down the track in 2nd gear it wasnt shifting till 6500??? I'm thinking that the ecu was still programmed w/ what I had on earlier & I should of reset the ecu by disconnecting the battery??? What do you guys think it is????

18 rims, or mabey less low end because of exhaust, diff outside temp. Just guessing. Or mabey your car was just having a bad day.

Did you have the chromies on it when you ran before? Adding that much rotational weight could have an impact.

Adding wheel weight adds parasitic loss...takes more HP to make em spin, thus lowering your times.

i'm almost positive its the 18" wheels. I ran on a crappy weather day and my best was a 14.89 then switched to 15" and ran a 14.64 with the same exact 60' times. Yes i had slicks but i was hooking good and pulled a 2.19 both runs. I think I still have my slips to prove if you don't believe me.

You ran with the 18" Mille Miglia's? Aren't those suppose to be quite heavy? Heavy wheels make a big difference.

I agree with Cumalot ... the MM's aren't performance rims ... not sure which you have .. but the Evo's are about 26 / 27 lbs ... they may be roughly the same size as stock which are 17's .. but it takes more to get 18's going than 17's ...

Need something lightweight .. my Volks are 18's but only 16 lbs ... but I'll probably run the same times even though they're lighter b/c they're 18's ...

damn...when discount tire was trying to sell these to me they said they are racing rims & even though they are bigger they are lighter then my stock by far
but i never ordered from them & wound up getting a deal from a fellow org member in my area & he sold me his MM Evo 5's is $950 a good price for a set of evo's 5 that are 2 month old w/ 2 month old tires (245/40/18 kuhmo ecstata...or something like that)?

Thats funny! Even the box for my Moda's have "Lightweight racing rims" on them, but I know at almost 30lbs they are not light!

true, from what i heard...for every 100 pounds thats a .10 sec off/on (whether you take off weight/or put weight on)

this is the rule of thumb for big hp RWD muscle cars... for our cars, weight is even more of a factor than this...

BTW, how are your ignition coils? I swapped mine out 6 months ago and it made a pretty big difference... there is a TSB on them, but unless the engine is pinging, the service dept probably wont do a thing... I swapped mine out myself...

wow, looks like when i race ill be racing solo. i had no idea fwd cars are more sensitive to weight. but wouldnt more weight on the front wheels give better traction off the line?

well big powered RWD cars, every 100lbs is .1 faster, but those big powered RWD domestics were in teh neighborhood of almost 4000lbs, the lighter the car gets, less weight makes more difference. On a 4000lbs car 100lbs may be .1 seconds, but on a 2600lbs civic si, 100lbs could be almost half a second. Have tried that, my friends civic si vs my auto 2k, and we run side by side, he beats me by a 1.5 car lengths to 90, but with 1 150-200lbs person in his car, i beat him to 90 by almost 2 cars.

I noticed a big difference when I replaced my 15 inch gxe rims with the oem 17inch. and just by hand the 17's were much heavier than the 15's

Okay...

We already established that the bling-bling 18s and the body kiy aren't helping. My question to you is...How many times did you run stock? It could just be a consistency thing, considering there's only .1 of a difference. Assuming the worst, your performance might be identical or just a little better than stock. Since there isn't a world of difference in performance, consistency could be the problem.
