Mom's Catalytic Coverter is stuffed up?????

As many of you know, I have a 4th Gen and my mother has a 5th Gen. Well, needless to say, I went to drive it the other day and the Service Engine Light came on. So knowing that Nissan gipped you guys and you can't check your own ECU codes, I took it to Autozone to get their free diagnostic service. It brought up the catalytic coverter code. What does this mean? Is it "broken", backed up, wire loose? I know nothing of her 5th Gen and any help is greatly appreciated. Thank guys.......

You could take it off and look at it. If needed put a replacement on. Other than that, take it somewhere and have it looked at.

If there is an O2 sensor after the cat, then it probably means that the trailing O2 sensor got a reading similar to the leading (before the cat O2 sensor. The reading should be different (less oxygen after the converter than before. This could be caused by either a bad cat converter or a bad O2 sensor or even a wiring issue . . . How many miles are on the car? Catalytic converters usually last a really long time.

The car is a 2000 model and only has 41k on it. I am gonna take a long look at on it Monday/Tuesday. Thanks to all who responded.

I doubt it's the converter then . . . probably just a bad O2 sensor. Big price difference between those parts as well.
