'01 Maxima GXE 5-spd vs. '90s BMW M3 5-spd
I was driving home after work yesterday when this dude in his late 40's or early 50's wearing a cheap baseball cap driving his M3 really fast passing everyone on the state route.
At the red light, I was right in the next lane with him. When the light turned green, I was thinking what to do while I heard big time tire squeaking. I was WTF??? and just dropped the clutch and took off to redline on 1st. That really surprised him because I overtook him by quite a bit.
Well, then the dreaded Maxima 5-spd. I missed the second shift. Basically, the shifter popped back to neutral. Now he is gaining on me. I finally put into 2nd and chirp I went again leaving him behind.
I can feel he shifted and gaining on me with a roaring engine. In the 3rd gear I pulled away a little, and now it is like 80mph and I shut it off. The guy kept going. At the next light, I pulled up trying to greet him. All I saw was a stoned face... and he didn't try to overtake me again the whole way.
I think the guy must be a hell of a bad driver.
What do you think? Should the two cars match at all, let alone I would sure leave him in the dust if I didn't miss the 2nd?

The E30 M3's were made here in the USA from 1987-1991 and were all 2.3 liter 4 cylinder engines that had 195 hp and about 155 ft pounds of Torque at the crank. They do 0-60 about 7 sec flat and about a 15.5 1/4 mile. Not taking any thing from your WIN a win is a win but you had a big advantage to start with.
