So, I advanced the timing on my 2k...
Well, after MiniRx7's thread, I figured I'd give this a shot and see where it got me. The others who did it had 2k2 6spd's, the fastest stock Max's, so I thought it would be interesting to try it on my 2k auto, probably the slowest stock Max. Anyways, it cost me $38 for the half-hour, and was pretty painless as far as dealing with the dealer goes. That's a first for me...
Well, after some spirited driving both at lower speeds and on the freeway, I was pretty pleased overall. I noticed a definite gain in low and mid range gusto, and a little in the higher rpm's as well. I also noticed that it seemed to eliminate "dead spots", i.e. points in acceleration that the car would tend to bog a little, in particular a spot just after 80. And not that it's practical in everyday driving, but acceleration at higher speeds improved noticeably as well.
So, overall I would say that it was definitely worth the money spent. I felt larger gains than when I first put on an aftermarket intake, and possibly as much as the y-pipe, though it has been awhile since that particular butt-dyno. Now it'll be nice to see if I have any maintenance issues from it, but I don't anticipate anything.

How far did you advance the timing, I guess I should ask how many degree, I'm thinking of doin the same.
Thanks for sharing.

Oops, sorry, forgot how much. It was at 15 and we bumped it up to 18. We checked it with the gun and it was fine, so that's where we left it.
I wish I could've done a dyno as well right before or close to it, but I don't really have the time right now. I should be getting it dynoed again soon though, so if my numbers are abnormally high for just bolt-ons, that might say something.

I still say...
...this mod would make the BEST black/white dyno.
1)Get Consult to a dyno.
2)Make 2 or 3 BEFORE baseline runs.
3)Adjust timing.
4)Make 2-3 AFTER runs.
No different days, dynos, mods, fuel, ECU relearning, etc...error to worry about.

I didn't realize the Consult was a portable unit, so it would be an extremely easy feat to get an accurate dyno, as long as you had the cooperation of the dealer.
Nauman, I still have the NOS on there, but I won't be using it anymore. I'm hoping to put the turbo on in the semi-near future, and I didn't see a need to fix the nitrous anyways for what will hopefully be a couple months. Now I definitely won't be using it. Not too big a deal though.
I read on the earlier thread that if you advanced it more than 3 degrees, it would retard it back, so at 3 degrees, we checked it with a timing gun. It was fine, so I didn't advance it any more than that. It may be possible to go more, but I was satisfied with a smaller number for the time being, seeing as how this is sorta untested and don't need to have any issues with the car right now.

I kinda like my engine, thanks.

Just turbo, hopefully around x-mas, but possibly spring since the ship will be underway for a while anyways, and the turbo doesn't do much good while the car is parked.
Actually its funny,
3 techs drove my car and found it stronger than normal..
NO PROBLEMS FOUND..
i have found that after the weather got cooler, it nolonger bogs and feels like lose of power..
The dealership thinks it was a bad batch of fuel...
I think i am getting too used to 255hp.. i need 100hp more now..

I was told by both technicians that once they set the ECU, it wouldn't go back unless told to or it sensed a major problem. My concern was disconnecting the battery and having to reset the advanced timing as a result, but they both said I'd be fine.
