MAX2000JP and I were heading home last night from watching Jello wrestling at a local bar. We were in his car (2000 SE 5-speed w/ intake and y-pipe).

A white WRX comes up next to us at about 45mph. It's about 1am...so there are no other cars on the road. We get a red light. We were worried that if he lauched hard...we would have a really hard time running him down. Lucky for us, he, like most SMART WRX drivers wasn't too keen on beating his trans to death and he half launched it. Jason had a really good launch and by the end of first the wRx only had a half car....after that it was all MAXIMA...the WRX gave up at the end of third when we had a half car.

He then tried us from a 60 roll....BAD MOVE...he got OWNED BAD.

When will these AWD guys learn that if they can't win from a stop...they don't have a chance in hell of winning from a roll.

MORAL OF STORY: Don't be scared of all AWD cars, most of them won't launch....especially on a Maxima.

 

Man you got lucky. The other night I was messing around with a VR4. We raced a few times rolling and I actually pulled about 1/2 – 1 car on him. We pulled over and talked. He was running 20lbs of boost on a 16G turbo...really starting to feel good about myself.

We then took off and wouldn't you know it, we ran into a red light. You guessed it - I hear him bouncing off of his rev limiter - light turns green - by 20 mph he had about 3 cars on me. I gave up.

Moral of my story – if a fast AWD wants to race you, suggest racing from a roll…

Yeah but if that kid puts half the money into his WRX that you put into your Max, he would own you off the line and at a roll. All it takes is a $20 mechanical boost controller.

 

WHO CARES!!!! The point of this post was not what is a better "bang for the buck" The fact is the WRX got OWNED TWICE...and obviously he DIDN'T put money into the car..and he lost....

You can't live your life in "what if" situations....

WHAT IF I had been on my R6 and a WRX pulled up to me...and WHAT IF I proceeded to spank the $hit out of him and I only spent 6 grand on my bike while the guy with the WRX spent over 20 grand to buy the car and another few grand to mod it...and I STILL whoop his a$$....

 

first, good point. The "but what if..." stuff gets annoying.

DUDE...it's AWESOME...it starts out with 2 hot girls in bikinis wrestling in the jello.....then the swimsuits come off...and before you know it...one girl is giving the other one a "dirty sanchez"

 

I got owned by one pushing 14 psi with a boost controller. Doesn't take much to up the boost but thats ok I got a little something for him next time.

 

ha ha...speakin of bikes, have you ever had the hilarious situation of having some *** in a 'pimped out' honda pull up next to your bike and start racing his engine??? i had some ******* do that to me (gsx-r1000)...i believe you can all imagine how badly i waxed his *** all over the road

im the owner of a 2k max, but im guessin a 2k2/2k3 max would have no problems walking a wrx? and secondly id like to see a wrx run with oh lets say a tbird sc'ed! my cousin has one and he constantly beats me.. i have to double pump the gas at about 4k/5k rpms before i can stay with his back wheels...

 

This is true, I raced this S4 a while back on the highway, and I pulled a little bit on him. It is all about the roll.

 

i think 14 psi is stock for the wrx. am i right here if not i will run back and hide???

 

The WRX gave me a good run, he pulled only in first gear. Once I hit 2nd I started to slowly walk him and he shut down in 3rd because it was all over. I raced another WRX before when my VI was broken and he lost to me slightly, so this guy I raced last night could have been lightly modded???? From a roll it was a joke!! We raced from a 70 roll and I walked him pretty hard. I let him get a car in front of me and then finally hit it.

BTW....For the guy above saying "what if"....I know what WRXs can do when modded but this guy wasnt modded so oh well. From a roll I think I could give a modded WRX a good race. They were only trapping at 96-96 at RT 66 when I saw a few run. Like BriGuyMax said what if he was on his R6

 

Good to hear. I considered a WRX when I bought my Max, but I felt to old for it (21). Sounds like I made a good decision...

The jello wrestling is CRAZY. I wouldnt even call it wrestling. Rather its 2 girls trying to rip each others bikinis off. One of my friend said he was there a few weeks ago and a girl stuck a glow stick up the other girls @ss

 

 

no offense.. i don't see how a 4000lb SC can beat you, but you walk a WRX .. i think you put a better driver in the WRX and you wouldn't have had as much fun I mean a Tbird SC is a low 15 second car.. a WRX is a low 14 second car.. Thats quite a bit faster. (for the record, i used to own a 95 SC 5-speed and i miss the 330lbs of torq.. i know what it is capable of)

 

A stock WRX isn't much a of match against a MODIFIED 2k 5 speed when racing from any kind of a roll. A WRX can rip off a 0-60 in about 5.4 seconds with a full tilt launch, but from a 5mph roll, the WRX is only capable of ~7.5 seconds (5-60mph). That 0-30mph advantage is huge for the WRX. You don't have to be terribly brutal to get a WRX off the line. Simply wind up to 4000rpms and quickly slip the clutch while feeding it gas. The goal is to leave at boost. Side-stepping the clutch is NOT needed to pull off a 1.9 60' in the WRX. Low to mid 14s at 92-94mph is typical for a stock WRX.

NOW, if you modify the WRX with a new up-pipe, catback, manual boost controller, UDP, and modify the stock airbox, you're looking at 13.6-13.7s@96mph+. Yes, the trap speed isn't stellar, but it is better than most modified Maximas on this Org and the ET crushes a Maxima. I've faced a couple WRXs at the track that have these simple mods. Off the line they get a huge jump, but by 70mph they're not pulling, but the race is over because they kept their 4 car lead the whole way.

But if you read my post i neva said i walked a wrx, i said im the owner of a 2k max, and im guessin a 2k2/2k3 would have no problems walkin a WRX, and yes i lost to my cousin many times, he has MAC cold air intake and his car moves eva since he got that installed... my stillen intake helps me a little but after 3rd gear he is pretty much out..
