5thgen carbon fiber hoods!

I got a potential group deal trying to gain some steam under the group deal section of this board. I can beat the groupbuycenter price that their vendor offered guaranteed. Hood is made by VIS and they have two different styles OEM and invader style that has a reverse air inlet.

Like I said in the other thread, I would be interested. Of course final decision is based on price.

If you can really get cheaper prices than groupbuycenter can offer, I am sure a lot of ppl will buy it. Show us the prices! Simple as that!

14 posts and nobody has a general price range on the item yet? Are we supposed to just blindly say "yes"? How about some more information to follow the initial post... like prices?

Groupbuy center vendor wanted 450.00 OEM style 495.00 invader style does not include shipping of 120.00.
Total: 570 OEM, 615.00 invader
The guy I am dealing with is trying to get them at 450.00 OEM shipped and 490 invader shipped. Let me get a confirmation and all the info first this is still in the quote stage.

Count me in at those prices! Anyone else think that the invader style is a bit too aggressive (ie ricey)? Maybe they could make a hood with a smaller reversed air inlet?

For a good look at a carbon fiber hood on a white car go here.
http://www.turbomagazine.com/features/0209tur_wrx/
I don't think it is ricey I think big chrome wheels and led washers are ricey and parkbench wings and things like that. With enough weight reduction I can shave off a few tenth's of a second doesn't sound like much but it can make a difference when added up.I don't even have a good stereo in my car so I can save weight my goal is to hit some decent numbers by summer time. low 12's high 11's maybe don't think it's possible then your in for a suprise.

I don't think the carbon-fiber hood is ricey, just the big air inlet on the invader style. I prefer the invader to the oem style, but I'd really like something in the middle aggressive-styling-wise.

The hood looks bada$$ on the WRX, not sure if it will be as nice on a white Maxima .

I'm curious if the invader-style hood will have any clearance issues if they don't raise it higher than they did on the Integra. Especially if you have SC pipes across the front of the engine bay.

Personally I prefer the Invader style. The only thing is, won't crap like rain, etc... fall right in through the scoop, and dirty up the engine bay?

For pics, check out the other thread about this in the GD section. I put a link to it, in the 3rd post in THIS thread.

I think it's a fake air inlet, like on Mustang GTs.

But, the way the invader hood slopes down like that, you may have to occasionally clean the inlet grill of leaves and dirt.

Does anyone know what the likely price will be? Although even if the price is right, I don't think I'll be getting it unless it will fit on the I35. Any ideas if it will?

On a white car it looks hideous for a Max ... Go buy it for a white Honda, Subaru, or a Mitsu... not a Max !

The whole point of getting a carbon fiber hood is to reduce weight. Why would you want to add 3 coats of paint to it and weigh it down?

The answer is, yes, you can paint anything...but why bother?

Get a fiberglass hood and paint it instead if you really want to.

I honestly haven't done much research on fiberglass or carbon fiber hoods. I do want to reduce weight but I didn't think painting the hood would make that much of a difference.

Exactly

Carbon fiber material itself is already expensive to get to begin with, why would you want to add weight and spend more money to mess with it.
