Nope...I have thought about it. Do you think it would restrict air flow too much?

It looks like it'll block the hot air from the radiator but I'm not sure if it restricts too much like maxman said.. Anyone else?

I'll tell you what I have noticed with my INJEN. The tube, especially the part that holds the air filter, gets VERY HOT. I'm not worried about the air around the filter, but I am worried about the air getting heated on it's way up the tube. Go touch your intake after driving for a few minutes...it's sick. I'm looking into putting header wrap on it to protect it from heat.

I've noticed that the car is much quicker when I first take it out versus after a few spirited runs up to 80mph.

Yeah your right.. One a nice day the injen tube gets freakin hot. The header wrap does sound like a good idea.. This should keep the air cool inside right?

Well, they use header wrap to keep the headers warm, so it's some sort of insulation. I figure it would also keep heat on the outside from getting in...could be wrong. I have seen these weird silver intake "bags"...basically sleeves. I have to track them down and see if I can find one to fit.

YES!@ That's the thing I'm talking about. $50?

Oh, and yes, your intake will look like butt. I'm very saddened by having to do this, but I want HP over looks. Also, it's mostly just the last length of tube. The tube after the MAF is cool (cold) to touch, but the lower tube gets nailed with all the heat.

$50 ....WTF... hell naw...injen is smoking crack!

If you really want to wrap the CAI pipe. I would use the the material Y2kevse had on his supercharger pipes (brown looking cloth). I forget what it's called or where you get it. I've seen it used to wrap y-pipes also, I'm thinkin that might be Y2Kevse again.

This is why I decided to go with Place Racing b/c the tube on Injen's get way too hot after only driving for a few minutes. It's supposed to be a Cold Air Intake. I think that all these people who are buying the Injen intake system are just getting it b/c it's the newest and hottest item, but that doesn't always mean that it's the best product out there. Just posting what I feel.

I got it b/c I didn't want to drill a hole in my fender. Just my preference to not drill holes in my new car. Whatever floats your boat though I am buying this wrap pretty soon hopefully it does what it says. If I ever show my car I will just take it off.

That would be funny if you ever went to sell you car with the hole drilled in it.

You: As you can see sir the car is pretty much perfect

Buyer: pretty much???...what is wrong?

You: well you see I had to drill a hole in the fender

It has more to do with drilling holes in fenders. Injen took less than an hour to install...and if I want to go back to stock, it's no problem. I simply had no idea that the 3.5l engine threw out so much heat. The problem will be solved with some sort of wrap on the tube. I just hate to do it cause the injen tube looks so cool! However, someone needs to tell us what we can use that doesn't cost $50.

this is why iceman makes its intakes out of heat resistant plastic. Plastic does not conduct heat like the metal injen intake.

btw.. any notice any rusting on their injen yet?
im still undecided of wether or not to buy one because the nj winters get Very VERY salty.

I have a 2K1 and just felt the Injen after a spirited drive, it was a little warm where the radiator hose is but that's it.

Is the heat wrap really gonna matter? I mean the air is flowing through the tube in a pretty fast rate......Is it even gonna have enough time to "heat up"? (Air inside the tube)

Personally I really don't think its gonna make that big of a differents....50 Bucks differents!?

Yeah, I thought about that too...but they say it is... (DEI) of course they're marketing the product.

If the tube gets really hot, the air might get warm...I dunno. All I know is that my car reacts funny in 2nd gear sometimes, and I'm blaming the heat.
