Why would he lose the trip computer by swapping out the head unit?

I read in the audio forums that the connection loops thru the HU.. I dont know why, but thats like the first post you see from someone who just put in an aftermarket unit, "where's my Trip computer?"

I think the connection is loose or unplugged. or you got some other whack refurb

Augh! I go in tomorrow for them to ID the problem and (most likely) order a HU replacement for the CD error. Can I insist on a new unit vs. refurbished? Does anyone have a happy Nissan service department story?

9 weeks and then they screw it up. I feel for you.

happy nissan service dept. story? humm....whenever they know i'm not happy...like this 9 week wait. They'll tell me to bring them the survey from Nissan NA, and they'll give me a free oil change ....if you consider a free oil change a happy story

We also have a 94 Quest, and the radio from our Quest was replaced 3 times before we finally switched it out to aftermarket. However, here's the low down on New vs. Refurbished....in order to keep competitive and to keep costs down, they use "comparable" refurbished parts as replacements, especially on the radio. The first two times they put in new radios into our Quest, but the third time they were going to send our radio to be fixed, then reinstall it. We demanded a new one, cause a combination of things didn't work. So, we marked the radio in an unnoticable location to see if they had indeed just repair ours. Well, the radio that they had put in was new, because everything felt new. However, the only reason that I knew it was new was because we knew the owner of the dealership and he demanded they put in a new one. So there's a happy Nissan service dept story...kind of at least. It pays to know your dealer I guess. (Wow, there's a lot of new/knew in that passage.)

It took a week to get my replacement (refurbished) HU in, and they installed it this morning. Sure enough, I checked for the SCV and it's missing. I drove right back into the dealer bay and they checked the part numbers--they don't match. So, they're reinstalling my old, broken HU and reordering a new one. No news on when the correct HU will be in.
