I raced an S4 auto from a stop. He was stock. He beat me off the line, but after I hit second gear ( I was manually shifting ) he was toast. I got him by about a 1/2 a car in what would have been a 1/4 mile run... Not bad for a car that costs 10K more than mine. Of course, the aftermarket is a lot more kinder to him than me .

 

From watching the video... the Jetta looks to be a mid 13 second car. Nice run. You got the inner lane on the turns, which helped you pull away a bit.

In the second vid, did the Maxima let off?

 

I wanna see a race w/ y2kev & 1.8t when kev gets his turbo in...then it will be turbo on turbo...then we'll see who will win

Nice run 1.8T. This thread has become nasty because everyone knows that the Maxima is the fastest car in the world. Especially mine. (Because it's black).

 

It looks like what happened but the Max was a stock automatic and his Jetta was quite modded. A 6 speed would have definately given him a better run.

 

I know what happened. It must have been his father driving the Max that he raced.

 

While I agree the Jetta's are fast, given what mods you said were in use during the race, the stats don't match up. I have a coworker that has a chipped 2k1 Jetta 1.8T with CAI and I have a 2k2 Auto with a WAI. I beat him consistantly at the track. It was chipped at Auto Authority in Fairfax VA which is a very well respected performance shop. You beat the Maxima in the video like it was standing still. There is no way in hell you did that without Juice. The stats just don't add up.
2k2 auto's run a 6.4 0-60 and a mid to high 14 1/4. Stock Jetta 1.8T tuns high 15's. Nice try though. It would've been a little more believable if you heard both cars at WOT.

Looks like the Maxima owner punched it too late. Also, it doesnt help that the Max is auto. Find a manual VQ series Max and im sure the story would be quite different.

Ok the confussion with the mods. In that video i had a chip, 3 inch downpipe, stock cat back, bov, dv,K&N drop in,poly motor mounts. I was running low 14's then. Now i have a chip, full 3 inch turboback exhaust, BLue Rhino CAI,BOV,DV,Motor mounts,manual boost controller. Off spray i think i am a 13.4-13.6! Ok now i said before that i had a 40 WET shot not dry! I said most hondas run 100 shots dry. But i run a 40 shot just for a little extra help. Now with radials, a good 60ft which i had a 1.9. You dont think i could do a 12.99? And u turbo a maxima, HOly crap that thing would be fast. But once again a 3.5L is twice the engine i have! And dont forget a stock turbo! I swear that my turbo can fit in the housing of a t/3 t/4! So i am impressed. If i get a T/3 t/4 then i will run a maxima with a turbo cause thats having twice then engine i have with a huge turbo! The fastest 1.8T is a 2000 Golf 4 door. T/3 t/4 fastest run so far was 12.2 @ 117. So i am just saying maximas i dont think are in my class. I have lost to a 95 LTi w/mods by 2 cars(My clutch slips through every gear!) and i beat a auto stock ls1 by 2 cars from a stop when i had my radials on. So like i said these cars arent in my class so if i can beat them then i say props to me. And i keep the nos for track only. I put it in and take it back out so i am not tempted to use it on the street!

 

The fastest Maxima runs low 11's off Nitrous and is getting a 100 shot direct port nitrous setup.. so you are right you are not in our class

 

also the maxima was punched ! I owned it in that first race cause its auto it had to kick in gear while i was already in gear. But the second one , i mean what can u say the maxima was punched. U watched it it took off on me cause it went to first gear while i was spooling at low rpms in second gear. SO what can u say. Next video tell me what u want? U will be hearing my car not the maxima cause i got exhaust.By the way my exhaust sounds phat as hell! Its not like i just bought a muffler to sound cool this is a $1000 full exhuast from the turbo to the bumper. I also got a dump tube so if i was i can be super loud. But anyone will say my exhaust sounds awesome! TEll me how u want the next video set up and i will do it the way u want! And he said he backed off cause something flew out the window in the first video thats why he said oh ****. But the second one he didnt back off! It was my friend driving the maxima!

 

They're ugly ... but like a lotta VW's .. they're fast .. did you read about the 240 hp GTI? WOW!!!

 

Is it me or does something not seem right about this video? Almost like the 2k2 wasn't floored or something, and the speeds don't seem all that fast. Plus the speed with which the 1.8T is pulling away is suspicious. You'd have to be putting down ALOT of power to pull away that quickly.

From the audio it certainly doesn't sound like the 2k2 was floored, especially given how clearly the voices can be heard. My 2k2 SE has alot more engine noise when its floored.

Dunno, props to you if its legit. 1.8T's can certainly made very fast.

 

i am not my friend is. A 95 3.0L T70 turbocharged jetta. The fastest its run so far was 11.80 keep in mind he blew the engine 3/4 the down the track and still coasted a 11.8! @ i dont remember 115mph i think? But another friends got a 00 type r integra with t70 and ran 10.4@143 those are the realy numbers. I give him the biggest props for it!!! But this is about me noth them. Im getting of topic.

 

you friend needs to get his maxima in for service. it looks in limp mode :/ Or his MAF is gone... Not saying you wouldnt beat him... but not like that. -OR- you need to change cars in case he's a pirate with a wooden leg and cant reach the gas pedal.

I dont believe a word this 1.8T guy is saying. I have raced a genuine very low 13s car, possibly 12s on a good day and it pulled buslengths on my modded Max. It wasnt even funny how many cars my friends C5 pulled on me. That Jetta is no way a 13 second car in that video. I have seen modded Jettas running ~.5 slower than Nealoc187 at the track. Something seems real fishy to me. How come I couldnt here the 2k2 Engine, but the 1.8T was loud as hell?? I know when I did a few runs in my stock Maxima, the engine sound was recorded.

 

Ok find me someone in my area that has a maxima. just listen to bov u know when i am switching gears. U think if the maxima was punched it would still be that close?

 

Sorry for the mod confusion. I still find it hard to believe the severity of the gap you achieved between these two cars in such a short run considering the mods. If you had the mods you now have, I have no problem believing the butt whooping. I saw the video of the golf beating a Viper pretty easily on several runs at the track. The turbo spooling up sounded like a jet. I have no doubt that a fully moded Jetta could hand a royal spanking to even the fastest Maxima. There's a big weight difference between the cars. A good example of how much a few hundred pounds can make is in the Hyundai Tiburan. Either C&D or Motortrend reviewed the stock car and racing series Tiburon. The only difference between the two was the racing series was 400lbs lighter. Motor and suspension were the same. It beat the new M3, Porche 911, Corvette and Viper around the track despite only costing $20,000. I went to the races in Danville, VA a few months back and the Hyundai Tiburon took 1st place beating all the porches, M3's, etc.

Speed and performance is only one aspect however. A fully loaded Jetta cost almost as much as a loaded Maxima and the two cars aren't even in the same class. While the Jetta is a great LITTLE car, the Maxima is more luxurious and better all around car. I'm not trying to take anything away from the Jetta. It's without a doubt a best in class car for it's class.

my friend's chipped vr6 GTI took my cousin's GS 400 from 0 - 70 mph.. of course we all know the ugly outcome after 90 mph .. but i already know.. its hard to beat a Jetta or GTI from 0 - 80 mph.. because they have 1st 2nd and 3rd gear so short.. and they have all the torque at 2100 rpms.. you got to shift like a bat out of hell to beat a Jetta/GTI at those speeds.. especially a chipped one fortunately i can

 

very true, in the vid the best chance to hear the 2k2 engine is in the second video when he starts to take off on me thats ur best chance. trust me its a 2k2 se with the 3.5L. in the next vid i will show the maxima and stuff

 

i raced a auto 02 stang gt from a stop with the maxima and beat it. This max is running 14's! Dont get confused at the end of the first race he got off the throttle around the hood entrance to the right thats why i started walking so hard. I didnt spray or do anything to take off on him once i got 4 cars he was off throttle!

Could you pull up some thread with 1/4 times real quick over at VWVortex??? I watched a bunch of 1.8Ts, both Jettas and GTI's, at GT66 this summer and none were faster than 14.8 IIRC. Neal was running mid 14s for reference. I know what the 1.8T is capable of because a neighbor down the street has a GTI and constantly talks to me about mods. He claims he is going to get a turbo kit and run 12s, which I will believe once I see it.
