Knocking or Pinging With a FrankenCar Intake

When i accelerate hard wiht my frankenCar, My engine begins to make a loud knocking sound. I do not have my A/C on because it is getting cooler outside. Anyways, i was wonder how many other guys out here have knocking w/ their frankenCar?

Also, does anyone experience this with Berk, or an Injen CAI? i Am thinking about getting an Injec CAI but i don't know if this is a big mistake because the winter months are coming up? What do you guy think?
Thanks

I have the frank mide-pipe and the berk filter. No knocking or noise here when WOT. The olny knocking or pinging I am aware of is from using less than premium gas???

Check if the engine is hitting your fstb under hard acceleration.

ya i'm sure it's unrelated because your engine shouldn't knock. maximas have knock sensors that retard the timing when i knock is detected the knock yiou are hearing must be from a different source.

Early 2000's (built until Jan'00,I think) had faulty ignition coils. They work for a year or two and then start to cause knock for no good reason. For some reason, putting on an aftermarket intake precipitates this problem. Go to a dealer and get them replaced if you're still under warranty (put stock intake back on, temporarily). If not, you're looking at about $250 to replace all 6.

Did you use the little bracket to support the intake? The edge of the filter might be close to the strut tower, and it hits when you rev the engine hard.

yeah, i sounds like the ignition coils like you guys said, my dad said something about that to me before. My engine pings anywhere, from 2k RPMS - 5K RPMs, hard accleration or not, but sometiems it doesn't do it. I'll get it checked out. Thanks for the responses. And i am pretty sure that is it installed properly, cause i had the former co-ownwer (Matt C, who drives a honda) of frankenCar install it

I have pinging accelerating after shifting into 2nd or 3rd. The dealer told me it has to do with the dense air that the intake has when accelerating hard (bullsh!t). I think its the coil packs as well. A friend of mine that is a tech at Nissan told me they have replaced coils on the V6 Altima and not the Maxima yet. I told him there is a first for everything. Hopefully I will have them replaced at my next oil change

hell yea, my brotha...

I too had extreme knocking on my 2k2 with the Frankencar intake. Put the stock box back on and it's much less noiceable (but still there). My Frankencar's been sitting in a box for a few months. Everyone says the engine CANT knock, there's an anti-knock sensor. Well, then the sensor's broken, because it DOES knock. Even my wife complains about it. I'm hoping it gets worse so the dealer will be forced to fix it.

Bad coils. The dealership will not be able to detect the bad coils on their diagnostics computer. They will have to test drive and recreate the problem. I had the same problem on my 2k GXE and now my 2k2 is starting to make clicking sounds under hard acceleration.

I have the same problem. I have a 2k and just had all 6 coils replaced under warranty around a month ago. Drove it off the lot and the car felt great...back to her old self...until recently. I noticed some decline in power/performance so i reset the computer by leaving the battery off overnight. Now the car feels even worse. I feel it's a consequence of the little boost sensor in the stock air scoop under the hood. I feel having an OSCAI contributes even more to this problem. Nissan tech told me the cars running really rich. I feel the sensor thinks the engine's getting all this air when it's really not. Plus it's exposed to the arm engine air(only when idling). So take it for what's worth. Anybody not have this problem with the whole scoop and sensor removed? BTW, i was wondering when a 2k2 was going to have this problem. Sounds like the didn't fix the problem. F*k nissan...

im SURE its the filter banging against the strut tower or wtuever cause its happened to my car before too. if youre too lazy to put on the bracket, just get some electrical tape, bunch it up, and put it on underneath the filter..and ur goood
