Bridgestone Potenzas Rule!

I don't know why everyone complains about the Potenzas in the wet. Just because my car slid about twenty feet turning in a wet spot in the parking garage; and they completely lose the surface at about 65 on the highway when there's ANY standing water (and the Yokohamas on my '95 can go at least 15mph faster). And I have to idle off the line at every stop sign when it's raining...what's the problem?

You guys must just be a bunch of whiners...

So if I want to replace these Crappy Bridgestone Potenza's, what are the alternatives for SE stock rims??

P.S. Atleast these Potenza's are still V-rated "performance tires"!!

The first person who responds to this post after me is a loser!

Use the search function, nismotech. Then be prepared to spend a VERY LONG TIME educating yourself. When you're done, join the Official Thread Killer Crew and help others avoid wasting org bandwidth by asking the same question over and over and over again.

I've seen multiple posts like this, but I have to ask--how old/worn are your tires? I've had my Max for a month (bought used), but it came with 2 new Potenzas on the front (guess the previous owner wore them down).

Its been raining for a week and a half here in Austin, and I've not hydroplaned, lost surface, e.t.c. None of the problems you experience.

Now, I'm not doing 90 on the highway or anything, but so far I (gasp) like these tires. Now, they are my first pair of sports tires (previous car not sporty), but I remember when I had a Geo Storm new in 91, they were Potenzas RE as well, and lasted for a long time.

So, am I nuts, or will I see all these problems in a year after the tire has aged?

Re: Re: Bridgestone Potenzas Rule!

I have posted about this before, but from the night I took my car home (in a drizzle) from the dealer I thought I was driving on ice! The RE92s suck worse then anything I have ever driven on. This includes rental cars. I switched to RE730s and they are amazing. Stick like glue, great water shedding, never squeal, just have a lot of ambient noise. IMHO RE92s are dangerous for anyone who drives even moderately fast and likes corners. Grandma would be OK on them, unless she knew where the gas pedal was.
Go to Tirerack.com look up whatever size and look at the reviews. Research counts, as does honest reviews.

I couldn't have said it better myself, especially when it comes to the thorny issue of whether you want to run tires that are in-spec for your rims or out-of-spec for your rims.

They have about 1,050 miles on them (and bear in mind, 1,000 of those were in the break-in period when I was being nice). They just don't compare well to other tires that are available, and not just Pilots - the Yoko's on the '95 were a model made for Discount Tire, and they hold about as well as the Michelin's I'd always used. The Potenzas are definitely below average.

Do the RE92's suck just as bad in the snow??? I'm in the Chicago area, where it has been raining and I'm sliding all over the place.

Just out of curiosity, what tire would be good in snow but not in rain?

Point taken. I understand... However, my question is...does the tire perform poorly in snow as it does in rain. I know it will not perform well.

the numbers speak for themselves...

Actually, i think some of them are overstated.

Its not fun...i took my max on my 17" s up to the snow..not a plesant experience. Im not sure how snow tires are supposed to feel..but my maxima sliding sideways was NOT something i expected under acceleration.
