Winter tires....Can you give me advice please...

I am going to get the Blizzaks(sp) the 99mp3 speed rating tires. Going to get them off of tire rack.com. I only need to put them on the front tires correct? And how should I rotate my other tires.

Do I REALLY REALLY need to get tires for winter? Are the Protenzas that bad?

If you live where it snows, you should ALWAYS get a set of 4 snow tires for ANY vehicle. It is not just a matter of traction for accelerating (be it FWD or RWD) or even traction and steering (FWD).

for a balanced car, especially during that all important braking, you need 4 snows.

Yes Potenzas are that bad...I've never heard of the logic of putting tires only on the front wheels. I would assume you would have to put the same on all four, for accurate speedo readings or something. But don't quote me on that...

Definitely get the set of 4. The car is balanced better and will perform much better in the snow. On one of my old cars I was told to get tires that were skinnier than the ones I had. The reason for this is a narrower tire will actually create more pounds per square inch and dig into the snow where the wider tire will float on top of it. It helped ALOT!

You can also get a different set of rims with the snows so you can change them yourself and protect your good rims from the winter. Another option is to get a beater car. With the price of tires nowadays, its almost cheaper. If you put the beater as your primary car on your insurance it might be cheaper like mine is

gotta have 4

check any website where they talk about tire safety, and they will tell you it is unsafe to mix and match tires. Different adhesion qualites, different handling characteristics would combine to spin you out not only on snowy or icy roads but even more so on the dry road days when handling with snows becomes trickier

I have driven my FWD vehicles ( Nissan, Toyota, Honda, Acura) without the snow tires in MN. You will be okay with the factory four-season tires unless you drive fast in a snowy day like it is just another dry summer day

The Potenza's are a blast in the snow... if your in an empty parking lot. I have the Dunlop Wintersports. The difference is night and day. I'll never be without dedicated snow tires again. Definately get 4.

I'd like to get a pair of old 16" rims for my SE for use with winter tires. Any suggestions on where/how I could find them . . . it should also drop the cost per snow tire . . .
