Recently, while my car is parked in my backyard parking space, the car alarm will go off by itself unexplained and then turns off after a minute or so. The weird part is, I don't lock the doors and arm the car while its parked at my house since we have a large gate in front. This happens during the day, afternoon and evenings. My mom hears it more than I do because her bedroom is closer to the parking spaces. Does anyone knows what is going on here or does anyone else have this problem with their 2000+ Maxima? I don't want to bring the car to the dealer yet and let them take my car apart trying to figure this one out if it is something simple or explainable.

OK, this is going to sound weird, but . . .

Mine did the same thing from time to time. It took me awhile to figure out what was going on.

I used to keep my car keys in my pocket when I was at home. Well if you look, you'll see that the red alarm button on your remote is raised up slightly. When I sat down or bent over just right, the button contacted something else in my pocket (change, another key, etc.) which depressed the button and engaged the alarm.

My recommendation? Take your keys out of your pocket when you're at home. If the alarm still goes off by itself, take your Maxima into your dealer for service.
