Its brand name Black Widow. It has door pins and hood pins as well as a LCD remote that lets you know the status of the car at all times. Naturally I have to ditch the factory alarm in order to get the keyless entry they tell me. Im confused.

You dont need hood or door pins, but a back up hood pin is a good idea for the NJ/NY area.

Remote start is tricky on a max. If these guys are telling you that stock alarm is removed or disabled, then they dont know what they are talking about.. go somewhere else. Your new alarm will control the factory alarm. Almost all decent alarms have factory alarm arming/disarming.
Also, being that remote start is so difficult on the max, I wouldnt consider it with a off brand alarm.

 

It is at Best Buy. Black Widow is a major brand BTW. They tell me that in order to get the remote start to work on max I have to disable the factory alarm. SO then I would be out whatever protection the factory offers plus keyless entry. That is why they suggested the remote starter with alarm. And the pins come with the alarm.

Then you need to speak to a different installer there, they are obviously very clueless. I wouldnt let someone touch my car that was talking that nonsense.

You cannot disable the SECU. There is no way around it. If they were to try to get around it, the SECU would see the door lock activated by the aftermarket alarm and the factory alarm will set. It will think you locked it with the key. So, to get back in your car, the new alarm has to disarm the factory. Not really an easy way around that.

The tricky part about remote start is that tach wire inside where many installers try to tap will not give accurate feedback to the alarm. You may get a grinding starter or starting only some of the time. Depends on the alarm really...

Pretty sure that alarm is a DEI alarm, so I think the alarm itself will work fine. A knowledgable installer is gonna make or break this deal...

Your new alarm will send commands to the SECU (that is also a major part of the factory alarm and just about every other function your car has). The SECU coordinates everything from your headlights to trunk release to dome light.

Your new alarm will tell the SECU to unlock the doors, lock the doors and arm/disarm the factory alarm. Generally, the factory alarm arms when the door is locked.. So you *need* an alarm that will trigger a disarm... If they dont know that, then they havent done a maxima. if they havent done a maxima, I wouldnt want to be their first. The DEI install sheet says all this. You can find a copy for yourself in the Audio section...

 

The type of alarm I am now looking at is DEI. This is what they told me at Audio King, a bit better place and naturally more expensive. They will install the remote starter. The bypass they install is so the OEM alarm is bypassed when the car is remote started, otherwise the car will not start. Now being that the OEM alarm is activated when the lock button on the keypad is pushed, the alarm will not activate from the aftermarket keypad when the lock button is pushed. Do I make sense now TimW? That is what I ment by bypassed. So I really do not want to carry around two keypads. They suggest (sales naturally, and extended warr) that the factor alarm does not provide much protection so go with a remote start w/alarm, $500. That way when the lock button on the AM keypad is pressed it triggers the new alarm and the factor one is bypassed. Now I have to make a decision is this all really worth it?? What do you think Tim, and again thank you for your assistance.

 

oh... yeah.. they arent bypassing it.. they would be deactivating it by some channel's output, I'm sure the DEI alarm can do that. Actually, what they are doing is using a key transponder to make your ignition think your chipped key is there. so to answer your questions, if they do it correctly, your new remote controls the new alarm AND the factory alarm. The new alarm will know when to deactivate/reactivate the stock alarm.

 

I forgot about the key transponder part. So is it worth it?

 

go for the new DEI Viper or python with the transponder LCD remote. DEI makes the best alarms hands down and they are worth every $$$ spent. Here is the Python one for sale on Ebay -

Check that out and you'll see that it is the most BADASS alarm on the market.

 

Are you sure this is all worth it + $450? It sounds like a very easy project to abandon.

 

Any decent alarm will be ~$200+
any decent install will be $100
adding autostart is always at least $100
NVIS transponder (immobilizer) = ~$50

there's your $450

if you have HIDs, aftermarket *anything*, live in a climate with extreme hot or cold, then yes.. very much worth $450

 

I think it's worth it. Everyday when I start my car and the engine's cold, I have to sit there for 3 minutes for it to warm up. It sucks. I'm getting the remote start so I can turn it on from the bottom floor, and by the time I get up to the floor I'm parked on, it's ready to drive.

Also, the aftermarket alarm and alarm pager gives me some peace of mind.
