Just snagged a 2000 SE demo... icelandic pearl, auto, 5K miles put on by sales manager, dealer tint -- pretty much loaded except for traction control for $26,000 (MSRP $29,393). Dealer wouldn't budge any lower. What do ya'll think of the price?

Previously owned a 4th gen and loved it... put 56,000 brutal miles on it (autocross, drag racing, etc.) and except for a weakening clutch and what seemed to be a weakened motor mount or tranny problem (car would lurch as I came on / off the gas) it didn't skip a beat. The 5th gen is really much yummier (as you all know) and I'm really quite pleased with the car's road manners, power, and comfort.

I test drove the Acura CL & TL / Jetta / Passat / Accord Coupe... none of them even came close to putting the same smile on my face. The Honda salesman got me on the highway and told me to stomp it, which I gladly did... shortly thereafter he told me, "See, that's the power you miss with the 4-cyl." I was like, holy crap, you mean this is a 6??? Obviously I knew it was a 6, but it felt anemic. Once you get used to the VQ, it's hard to settle for less...

The CL & TL were nice but had, shall I say, a boring feel to them like I could accidentally tune to a classical station and fall dead asleep on the highway. The Volkswagens were appointed quite well, but the throttle response on the GLX sucked. I kept waiting for the power to roll on, and once it did it was not too impressive.

Anyway, happy to join your ranks. I'm sure the above comments don't take any of you by surprise...

Cheers,
Bingo

You should be able to get it for about $1000 UNDER invoice... especially when the 2K1s are already out.

The throttle response on the lesser 1.8 turbo doesnt suck. The V6 NA is worse. I bought my GLE with 0 miles on it brand new w/o traction control for 26.

Bingo,

I got my 2001SE-5spd for 24,500+ttl with C&C, Meridian, Bose, only thing not included was leather.

So I think the dealer can go lower, especially since it's a 2000.

SHop around I am sure you get a better deal than that.

What kind of mileage is on that demo you just got?

Because, you know how those demo units are ABUSED by one an ALL on each and every test drive!!!

Nice to see you are still around Bingo, did you go to Southpoint Nissan

or RoundRock? If you go to SouthPoint talk to JayLee Carlile, he is a cool guy, I picked up my car at a great deal tell him Adam sent you, he is very easy to work with. But I know they can go lower with it being a 2000 model. Welcome to the bigboy's team. )

Re: What kind of mileage is on that demo you just got?

It was driven by the manager, so I feel more comfortable about the miles on it. If it were a car that had been used for test drives, I wouldn't touch it. After 5K miles, if someone got on the throttle hard for a test drive, it's really not that big of a deal. That's not to say that the manager wasn't a drag racing freak with 20 miles on the car, but it's fairly unlikely...

Agreed on the pricing though -- it was about $1,000 away from hitting the sweet spot. I know it could have been a better deal, but what the hell. I came, I saw, I financed. All I have to do now is resist the urge to mod the hell out of it.... must....... keep...... stock...... intake / b-pipe / muffler / springs / shocks / wheels....... hehe!

Yeah, Southpoint it was -- guy's name was Roger Marinez. They were fairly straighforward to deal with -- in all, it was a pleasurable experience. My 4th gen was showing the signs of 56,000 brutal miles and I was getting more and more anxious to get a new one...

In spite of the fact that, mechanically, my previous Max was getting a bit tired I hadn't had a single problem. That's quite a statement for Nissan engineering, because I really hammered her on a regular basis. Now, if I can learn to drive my new baby with more care, maybe I'll keep it long enough to pay off... or at least trade on a new Z with a little equity in her.

Hey Russ

I test drove a car exactly like yours 2 days ago, including the color. It was a lot of fun. Good zip. Good traction with the LSD. Back seat room really sucked with the front seat all the way back. I couldn't even fit in with it back. The fit and finish is very nice. Trunk is decent. Ride wasn't as good as the Maxima, but it was a good car.

Yea, it a good little car for the price. The main reason I don't like it is because of the room. I can't hardly have any passengers, and when I do, I have to pull my seat up so they can fit! And I don't like that! So, within 8 months I will have either a 2001 or 2002 maxima...

Hey Bingo, was your 4th gen a white one? With TSW Rims with the spare in the back, Greddy and PR Intake? If so it sure was fun to drive, I'm looking at it, just trying to decide if I want a car that's been driven hard. heh

Yep, that was mine alright. Hey, send me an e-mail at bingo@texas.net -- I'll reply with my phone number and you can talk to me about it. I'll give you the straight story on her. By the way, what are they asking for it?
