H3 hid kit install

Where do you think the best place to mount the ballast and starters for an H3 HID kit for the fogs? I have an 8000K Hanabi H3 kit going in. Any other tips for install would be cool?

FAR FAR AWAY FROM ANY WATER!...

Make sure that no water can ever reach the components!

Well, actually you can have water splash in through the front. I have a friend that has problems with the Hanabis when it's raining outside.

Try a location close to the firewall... if your cables can reach that far. I have the stock HIDs, so I really don't know of a perfect spot to mount them. I'm surprised no one else has offered any advice yet.

Waterproof the ballast

Look in a alliedelec.com, digikey.com, or newark.com for small plastic boxes and waterproof power connectors.

That way you can place the balast and wiring anywhere.
Look for a box with a nema 4 rating for weather-proofing.

If the balast gets hot use thermal paste and a piece of aluminum as a heatsink.

Place the balast in the box.

Drill holes in the sides for wires. use grommets in the holes to help seal the hole around the wires.

Use silicon to seal the box and holes.

If you need more info I can get some part numbers at work tomorrow.

The water proof water connectors are rubber sealed and can be dunked in water.

You might need a special crimp tool to crimp the wires in the connector. I'll get back to you

I hope this helps.

Good Luck

Awesome! Look forward to hearing more. 8000K hids in the fogs are going to be crazy. I will be documenting everything as I go along but want a good plan to begin with.

Deutsch Connectors

Here are the connectors i was talking about.(bottom of page) No special tools requried. they are a popular miliatary spec connector. They can take all kinds of abuse. You can do a search on google.com for "Deutsch Connectors" for more sites. I just choose the first one i saw.

http://www.msdignition.com/1protool.htm

For the box go to www.newark.com and search "nema 4x box" and you'll get a alot of waterproof plastic boxes. Just find the right size for your application.

I have never done an install on a car. But this is how I waterproof electronics at work going in the mud.

You can buy the silicon and wire at a hardware store.

I hope this helps.

Great i will have to measure out the starter and ballast and get the best box for them. Then figure out what connections I need from there..... I gotta get a camera and take some pics.
