Mind playin' tricks on me???

Ok, I totalled my 2k2 and replaced it with a 2K3 now I have issues. I purchased my 2k2 with about 48 miles on it, my 2k3 with 148. My engine does not run as smooth as my 2k2. The engine seems loud and rough. I mean, I can't imagine what damage a person could do for the 1st 148 miles. I'm getting paranoid that this car ain't right.

I'm suspecting that the car has too much oil, I know that can kill an engine. I checked the oil level last night after driving and couldn't get a good read. One thing, is it normal for the entire dip stick to be covered in oil while the engine is running??? I've put about 500 miles on the car, I hope I haven't damaged anything.

You need to let the engine sit for a while so that the oil can drain down. I believe it is common for the dipstick to be covered as you mention. As for the mileage, well, we all know how ppl test drive cars, but I don't think anything could go wrong in 148 miles.

Another thing is when I put my hand on the engine(engine cover) or the intake I can feel the "tapping" and it just feels rough.

I didn't have my 2k2 long enough to see how it ran in the cold. But if I recall correctly the few cool days I had my 2k2 it didn't run as smooth as in the heat. They say cold air is good for an engine but I don't know about this one.

When I had my Taurus SHO I would told the engine runs more efficiently when it runs slightly hot. Could this be the case for the Maxima?

That's right, I did walk away. The Lord blessed. Everything worked out. I was without a car for only about 3 weeks. And I purchased the 2k3 3k cheaper than the 2k2.

Anyway, I was heading south on 95 near exit 29 when I loss control of the vehicle. I ran off the road onto the shoulder. I tried to correct but the car just slid off the road and hit the aluminum guard rail. I'm not sure how fast I was going but the car would not stop. I ended up jumping back onto 95, skidded sideways across 95 and hit the guard rail on the other side of 95 south.
Fortunately I didn't hit anyone. It was crazy.

But like I said the Lord blessed in the form of Auto+GAP insurance which covered my entire loan.

Goodness you were blessed. Sound like it was smashed both sides... And you walked away? That is a major blessing in disguise.

Just like when I got stabbed 8months ago in Forestville and dude missed my heart because the knife hit the rib.

Sometimes the lord works in myterious ways.

I believe your mind is playing tricks

You didn't say how long you had your 02 but it sounds like you never had it during the winter (or at least not for long). The colder weather will make the car behave differently. Just my opinion.
