to get or not to get (wind deflector)?

Hey guys,
From your experience, does the sunroof wind deflector significantly reduce the wind noise at highway speeds? I did a search on it, and some people were saying that dirt builds up under it, and after some time, you can't even clean it off. Now, I'd rather have wind noise than uncleanable dirt, but if it's not a big deal on 2003s, then I'll get it.

Also, for those that have it, do you take it off once every while to clean under it? If so, is taking it off easy or what?

Thanks.

Do NOT get it. Mine came with one and only a couple hudred miles later the paint under where it was is scratched right into the clearcoat. I took it off 'cuz I got sick of washing the car and having runoff for a long time afterward and I don't like how they look.

Hey jjs,
But is the wind noise w/out it significantly louder, or just a bit higher?
Thanks man.

I personally do not notice much difference at all. Some people say they have. I figure if it gets annoying with or without one, I would just as soon shut the roof and run the AC anyway for myself and passengers.

Don't get it. The only time I drive with the moonrrof open is boulevard cruising. It's too damn noisy over 40-45 mph, unless you blast the bose.

And jjs, I should have taken it off when I had a chance, but I'm afraid of taking it off now and find difference in paint fade...

Not so much fade, I am talking visible abrasions which have not come out with over the counter products. I ahve not yet gotten so annoyed as to take it into a body shop for a buff out (assuming that works).

That is why I kept the hardware and deflector rather than sell it. If I need to trade it in later, I will put all back together again and hand over the keys.

I hear ya. I also noticed the nice flat black paint on the screws holding the deflector is chipping off. It looks like crap, but hey, I got bigger chips to worry about.

I wouldn't get it. I took mine off the day i took delivery of the car. There was a slight line on the roof, that has become lighter and lighter as I have clay bared, polished and waxed. I can't imagine how much worse it would have gotten if I had left it on. Besides, they all get cracks in them anyway - unless they have a new vendor.

And I think they're ugly, too.

Actually, I think the ones in 2000 and 2001 were pretty solid...it only became an issue with alot of 2k2 owners complaining.

Yes the wind deflector does reduce the amount of wind noise while you are at highway speeds. I take it off every now and then and clean under it. There is a distinct outline of the rubber seal of the deflector that is very difficult to remove. My car is black so I don't think that it shows too bad. I have recently removed it for the winter because of the cracking and fear that it would snap and do more damage. If I had to do it again, I would have gotten a Max without one.

Agreed! Mine went into the attic right after I got it home from the dealer.

When I bought my Max, I was told that because of the cracking and shattering problems they were having, Nissan did not include it as part of any of the options packages. Instead, it was considered more an "accessory."

From what I understand, none of the 03's in any dealerships come with them. But this was 2 months ago, so that could've changed.
