First Synthetic Oil change

I did my first oil change on synthetic today, I have 51,500 miles on my 2k SE and I had been using dyno oil since I bought it. I have a couple of questions that I couldn't find doing search after search.

1. Since this is my first time using synth. How long should I go before changing oil again?? 3k, 4k, ??

2. Let's assume I go for 5k miles before I change oil again, should I change the filter before the 5k, or should I change both oil and filter at 5k??

3. Am I suppossed to notice any big difference as far as engine performance right away, or will I have to wait till next oil change??

I used Mobil 1 10/30 SuperSynth Oil and Mobil 1 Oil filter. I paid about $40 for a 6 bottle case of oil and the filter.

I would appreciate your input a lot.

Thanks

I changed out my dino oil in my 2000 GLE when it had 17,000 mile on it about 4 months ago. I used Amsoil 5W30 with their oil filter. Amsoil claims their oil is good for 12,000 or one year with another oil filter change at 6,000 miles. I'm not going to go that long between changes. I 'm changing the filter when it gets 4,000 and the oil again at 8,000. There are a lot of preferences out there on oil change intervals with sysnthetics. Alot of people play it on the safe side and change the oil at more frequent intervals.

After I changed over to Amsoil I noticed a 2 MPG increase in the performance. I am planning to do a synthetic ATF change out when I get 30,000 on the car.

Ok first you paid to much for your oil. I get 5 quarts for 17.88 of Mobile at Wal-Mart.

You will not have an increase in performance worth talking about.

I use 5k mile intervals with a filter change at 2500 miles. I use the Bosch filter for about half the price of a Mobile filter.

Use 5-30 instead of 10-30.

I too bought the oil at WalMart, it was about $5 per qt. The filter I bought at Autozone for about $11.
So should I go with 5/30 instead of 10/30 next time?? Weather here in Utah doesn't get too extreme.
So you guys are sayin that I should change filter at about 2,500 miles and oil change at 5000? After that should I go longer intervals or stay about the same?? Thanks for all your help.

oil

Bumping because I'm also curious as to why use 5w-30 over 10-30? The manual says 5w-30 but many people down here (in the south) recommend 10-30 over 5-30 because it doesn't get cold enough to warrant the 5-30. The question I have is: Although I don't need the coldweather abilities of 5-30 is there any harm in using it compared to 10-30? Ie, is 10-30 BETTER than 5-30 if you live in a warmer climate and don't need the coldweather ability of 5-30?
