New Wheel Pics

Just took new pics of wheels from Wheelmax. They are the DL46's (SSR GT3 Clones) in 17 x 7 with factory rubber. I love the SSR's, but just didn't have the green to make it work. I also decided to stay with 17's for the smooth factory ride which is why I bought the Max in the first place, but you guys started me on modding and the rest is history. I will try to submit better pics later cuz the weather here is crappy and overcast.

Not my style, but different strokes for different folks.

Dont be so sure on the fact that 17s are the only way to have that "smooth" factory ride.

Ask TimW who was recently in my car, the 19s on a lowered ride on mine seem like the day I got it.

My 18's ride better than allot of my friends 16's and 17's. Allot of it has to do with choosing the right tire.

While I didnt ride very long in BDJ's car, we did turn into some parking lots and there is always that ashpalt/concrete lip. I was expecting to really hear that *BAMM*, but it never came. You could certainly feel more than my Tugboat GLE susp, but I would say it was more crisp than harsh. I've been in some 2k+'s that made my spine hurt, like a ride at Six Flags over Nissan.

Better looking wheels?...

I think it's great to upgrade when the outcome is a better looking than the stock look. Some (not all) wheel mods people choose don't end up matching the character, trim level, look, or year of their max. Instead, they CAN end up changing the ethnicity of the maxima and ruin the great look altogether. IMHO, I like the look of your stock 2002 GLE 17's much better (compared to your other choices).

As for your newest rims, (IMO, again) I think you should go back to the stock rims, period. Spend your money on something else (or rims that compliment the character and look of your max). I'm sure they are beautiful rims, but they don't comliment your max (expecially due to the look, additions (or lack of), of your max).

If your max was lowered, with a body kit, possibly different brakes, THEN I think the different wheels would fit.
The fact that you have a spoiler (probably added) makes it seem like an SE and looks great with the GLE rims (very sharp car!).

Kloogy and Emax95 are two great examples of wheels that only futher compliment the look that they are going for without taking away from the character of the max.

I like those better than the stock wheels, but why didn't you buy a wider wheel?

They look nice. Personally, I think you should have gone with an 18" wheel if you are going to make an upgrade. The stock 17"s are a sharp looking wheel and I have never understood why people change them out for the same size rim. Different strokes....different folks.

You sound like me, I consider myself a "Rim Doctor"

Every aspect of the rim should match the feel of the car. Otherwise tacky, tacky, tacky.

I'm not saying his will be, I haven't looked at them, but I can say the stock GLE's are 10X better than the all the max's in the past except for the "honey combs" in '96 maybe even '95.

How do you feel about chrome? I feel chrome goes in a completely different direction the car was designed for IMHO, most cars today shouldn't even think about chrome.

Stock Ride

I understand that everyone has his own taste, so everyone won't like them like I do. Believe it or not I am just a middle aged man (almost 40) who got caught up with the modding bug. I really don't care much about performance in the form of speed or taking fast turns, but I like the look of being able to do those things. With that said I am just not willing to give up the stock ride by doing 18's, springs, exhaust, etc. I am currently looking for a good deal on crossdrilled slotted rotors though!!! hehehehehehheeh ( See, can't stop )

Not the modding bug

I'm 32, so you have a few on me , the 3-piece look is nice, I'm glad you didn't do chrome.

Looks good! I personally like the stock rims. Maybe because I don't want to spend money on aftermarket.

Nice car, and its your car/money, but why did you spend cash on aftermarket rims/tires to get the same basic tire package that comes stock?

Are you planning on drop/kit? If you are, then won't your choice of rim/tire play a part in the future planning of those mods.

Que

like the looks of the SSR gt3. Don't plan on dropping, but I didn't plan on any of this when I bought the GLE. If I could do it over would by a stripped SE with leather and roof and mod the crap out of it!!!!

The rims you have are great. I just upgraded mine to 18x8 AR Vortecs and the ride is so close to stock but much better with the suspension upgrade of H&R's and KYB AGX's. Rims are a tough find. Enjoy them. I understand what others say about complimenting the look of the car however each of us are individuals and combined with taste, style, budget, all become a factor in choosing a rim style that meets all of these requirements. All I can say is that my purchase meets all these parameters and I feel my car looks and drives great. To each his own, have fun happy motoring.
