PAC SWI-X

yep. i have a 2K1 SE with BOSE and i recently swapped the bose out for an alpine deck. i used the SWI-X to get my steering wheel controls back. installation was easy: 1 +12V wire which i tapped into the headunits wire for, 1 ground wire, and 5 wires (one for each button on the stering wheel that i had to put a resistor inline with and connect to the SWI-X (the resistors were provided). i know you have a 2K2 with the trip controls, but all you have to do is make sure the brown wire is grounded (as it says in the instructions) and you should be fine. it works great!

So how exactly does this work? Does it convert the signals from your steering wheel to infrered signals and work like a wireless remote? If so does that mean you need to mount the module in line of site with the deck? Or does it interface with the radio itself somehow?

mine was installed in the side of the HU frame is a little sensor that sends the signal to the HU if you cover that it wont work!

It does everything except for 1. You can either have it so it goes through your preset stations or to your next cd track, but not both.

I have one on my 2k3 with Bose (well, used to have Bose ). You are pretty much limited to what the remote on your aftermarket stereo has. You can program it so it does anything your aftermarket remote does (limited to the amount of steering wheel buttons).

I mounted mine behind the sun glass holder. It needs the line of site so I have the wire (eye) hanging in front of my rear view mirror.

The one thing I will say is there is a slight delay (1/2 second or so) because it is converting to IR. At first, I wondered if it was worth the $70 but after having it a while I'm glad I got it.

My remote does go through the presets, but the stereo shop said that they tried everything to get it to work and it was either go track to track on the cd or go preset station to preset station. The shop I took it to does an awesome job on vehicles. They elimnated my rattles completely with dynomat extreme and 2 rubber spacers.

I am wondering however if it is somehow possible to get it to work. I'll try to reconfigure it this spring. As mentioned before in another post, there is a delay that is sometimes a nuisance when changing tracks on cd's. I like others wondered if this was worth the $70 plus installation costs which can double the cost. Let there be no mistake, it's definately worth the cost. I love having the steering wheel controls.

Since it runs off of resistor signals, what if you use combinations of steering wheel buttons? I know between the up and down buttons, it's easy to press both
