!!!Please read!!!

I understand now that the problem doesn't lie with the tranny, it's me. Granted I'm not the best shifter in the world but I think what I'll do from now on in an instance of hard acceleration is downshift to 4th, THEN downshift to 3rd from there, that should get the syncros spinning fast enough to where it won't damage the tranny.

Once again, I'm sorry for blaming Nissan and their parts, I know I am truly the one at fault and I admit to my not knowing how to drive a stick before but now, I can drive and so if my next tranny breaks (which it won't because I no longer do hard driving or "racing") I'll blame it on myself for being an idiot and not buying the auto my dad recommended.

Thanks everyone for all the replies and I really want people to know that these cars are among the best out there. I wouldn't trade my Maxima for anything (except maybe an IS300 ).

I read that, thanks Galo and I'm getting a new tranny as soon as I come back from vacations (yes, college student; FINALS SUCK!) and I'm positive that on the new one (#3) I won't have problems. Hell I'm not gonna drive it hard at all to see what happens...

I don't know how Nissan does it, but try to make sure you get a new tranny, not a refurbished one. They could be trying to minimize their costs, so they possibly put in refurbished ones. They do this with the BOSE headunit which costs much less than a tranny, so I wouldn't be surprised if they're putting refurbished trannies in as well.

By the way, I wasn't blaming Nissan , I love the car and couldn't be happier with it, but I was saying that it could be something wrong with his particular car/tranny. I got nothing but love for the Max !!!

I doubt they would give him a new tranny. I think by law they only have to replace whatis broken, and in this case it's 3rd gear (I think he said) and not th whole tranny. A whole new one would be best.

So the BOSE head unit is refurbished? that sucks. I need mine replaced because I have the problem of the left speakers cutting out when playing CDs. Damn I have to stop slamming my CDs into the changer!

Hey MaxRPM,
Yeh, the headunits are refurbished. One of the members here found that out somehow (don't remember the exact way). So he suggested to people that go to get the speaker problem fixed to ask for a NEW headunit, not refurbished. By the way, I just posted a thread on this, but did this speaker problem develop, or was it there right when you picked up the car? Also, is this problem apparent, or do you have to listen carefully to see if it's there? I don't know if I'm being paranoid after reading all these posts regarding the HU, but it seems to me like when I play CDs, the music sounds different than the radio. It's kind of hard to explain, but it sounds as if there's more sound coming from the front of the car than the back.

It didn't happen right away, and yes it is apparent and only on CD not tape or radio. There is little to no sound coming from the left side speakers. It doesn't happen all the time but it's worse then ever. I sometimes give it a hit with the outside of my fist by the head unit then all speakers work. But then it just cuts out again. I did go against the manual and have CDRs in the player. Don't know if that caused the problem.

Duh! Why didn't anyone say this sooner! Definitely go for the lemon law. Who knows, maybe there is some screwed up alignment between the tranny and the engine, or your dealer is screwing up the install. You never know, maybe it isn't you. Don't take a chance it is a chronic problem that you are not the cause of!

Re: Am I a bad driver? Gonna go get 3rd tranny soon...

Are you a bad driver. I don't know I've never seen you drive.
Are you bad at shifting. Well it does sound like you could use some improvement.

From what I've read in this post you probibly got your original trans fixed the 1st time by the dealer, and it wasn't a good fix. With that low of miles on the car you shouldn't be having this prob with 3rd or any gear for that matter unless you really beat the chit out of it.

Golo has you on the right track. Get a NEW tranny and follow his advise.

As far as your friends cars that you have driven. Have you done the hwy 50mph or more 5th to 3rd with them? And if you did were they sitting in the passenger seat? Did you get back handed, can you drive their car again? Yes it can be done but if done wrong your gonna cause problems. This should also not be a daily part of your drive.

Take what you've learned and apply it to your new tranny and you will be fine. I would get it fixed asap and not wait. This is warranty work you should be able to get a loaner or a rental out of them.

In the mean time try power shifting 3rd. If you pop out of 2nd above 3k let the rpms drop to 3k and push it into 3rd you should be able to avoid grinding. It's a feel thing when you get the feel it will be smooth. This is also not recomended but may help in this instance.
