Autotragic whining

I have a new '03 SE and the auto transmission whines during acceleration.I only have 1,200 miles on it and it has done it since it was brand new.Is this normal?Anyone else had these problems?

i have the same problem...had it since my car was new as well. i dont if it's per se normal, but i dont think it's necessarily bad either. my mother's lexus does the same thing.

sounds like a tranny bearing to me...does it get worse at night with your headlights on?

I also have an '03 SE AUTO( with 8K miles on it )and the tranny slips almost every time between 1st and 2nd gear and sometimes even between 2nd and 3rd. It's been doing that since I bought it and the dealer said it's normal. Does your Max do the same thing ?

There is a TSB for the 2k, 2k1, and 2k2 for tranny slippage. See if you can get the dealer to do it for your 2k3. Maybe it'll help on the tranny slippage. I don't think tranny slippage should be normal, but the dealer always says that if the tranny is cold then slippage is normal.

It doesn't matter if it's cold or fully warmed up.
It does it all the time. Where can I print out a copy of the TSB ?

The sound does not change with the headlights on.

Not normal. I'm on my 3rd tranny, time for a visit to the dealer.

Re: Re: Re: Autotragic whining

Could be the tranny bands; generally whining is a sign of tranny wear, but in some cases it may stay for the life of the car (if the tranny lasts that long), and the tranny will be problem free...

As far as whining with the lights on, maybe the wee bit of extra juice being pulled is behind that - do not confuse alternator whine with tranny whine - it's easy to confuse the two until you've had both make noise and know what each sounds like!

FYI my tranny whines now like a **** until warm.. it probably has to do with the mileage and the boost

If your 6-speed's notchy and you can't shift, your not gonna own anything!

No, but seriously though, I have 3100 miles and I think I hear the same sound as well.....it almost sounds like a radio controlled car when you start to accelerate. As for the tranny slippage, I haven't gotten that.........yet.....
