Changed oil and installed Hella horns today....

Just did an oil change on my 2K2. I used to change my own oil all the time, but have taken my previous cars to a Valvoline quick change garagefor the past 15 years. Since visiting the org, I decided to get back to doing it myself. Got an OEM filter and Castrol GTX.

Then I installed the Hella Supertone horns I just got from the GD. I looked all over to find as much info on the install as I could. My auto electrical skills are fair at best, and I was hoping to avoid using the relay. I removed the stock horns, attached the existing wire to the Hella's silver connector, and ran a ground from the copper one. (a thread on an MR2 site said the silver was the positive connection) Oh yeah, I disconnected the battery before I started..that much I know!!

Even without the relay, these sum britches are pretty loud!!
Scared the crap outta my wife when she came home from the store!!

Hopefully, I won't blow any fuses...I usually don't hold the horn on for more than a second or so. But I kept the relay, just in case...anybody else from the GD got them installed?

I got the Hella horns installed today too! Didn't use the relay either. I actually wired it with the copper plug as the Positive, and ran a ground fro the silver plug. Does it really matter which way you do it? It seems to work just fine?

I was thinking about that too. I am going to swith the leads and see if it makes any difference. Maybe the + and - info wasn't accurate or important.

I'm now thinking about adding the relay, to see how loud they can REALLY go.....

- doesn't matter which connection you use

- if you hold the horn for more than a few seconds, the fuse will blow. relay is htere to provide the power it needs. for 2k2's, in front of hte battery there is a fuxe box with 2 available slots. i placed my relay there...clean, hidden, and loud.

Thanks for the info on the fusebox, PoLo. Sounds like the ideal spot for the relay! I'll check it out.

Great pic

thanks for posting the pic, PoLo. Looks like a good fit for the relay. That's where I'll put it!

I've had my Hellas in for awhile w/o the relay. I've held it down for a long time, and it has not blown.
