WHOOPS! (long)
WHOOPS! (long)
So I recently installed an RSB and a FSTB on my car. i decided to test them out at a set of curves that i usually take a little fast for the adrenaline rush.
anyway, it's an S curve that i feel comfortable taking at 30mph during regular driving. i've taken my stock max at 50 with no problems. 55 in my sister's stock galant (which handles much better than you would expect).
i set that as my benchmark, take those turns at 55 no problem. i turn my car around and i up the ante to around 62, and there is just a hint of tire squeal. so far, i'm impressed with the mods. then i remembered a friend of mine (540i) saying that he took them at 70 without issue. so i figure, what the hell, may as well give it a shot.
big mistake. i start the turn, i got a little nervous, so i tapped the brakes (i think this was my mistake). that starts the car into a spin, so i whip the wheel back into the direction of the skid, and i guess i was in a drift at this point. i ended up 180 degrees on a two lane road, and i almost hit a tree.
dumb as **** move, but man, was it fun!!!!
bottom line - RSB and FSTB help quite a bit, but it's still no bimmer!

Brake in power out. Once you start to "power out" and tap the brake your going around.
You gotta be more careful. A guy here in GA killed a jogger in his Max before he totaled it. Now he has to live with that the rest of his life.
This is closed course stuff or at least having the road blocked by buddies. If you total it it's your thats bad but there is no excuse for killing someone...

A 540i will really carve out a path, if you catch my drift. I used to rag the doo doo out of the one my buddy drove when I was in the Navy. Things are down right nasty. And then there's the M5. Good lord, I love my Max to death, but if it came down between the two, I'm going with the Bimmer

it's amazing, 4000lb sedan, sooo nimble on its feet.
Big mistake, try not to brake in the middle of turns. it throws all the weight to the front, which unloads both rear tires, but especially the rear inside, which will throw the car into a spin. Brake before the turn, then power through it. especially in our front wheel drive cars - and ESPECIALLY if you're not a very good driver. understeer is easier to manage for average drivers than oversteer.

thats just it with RSBs.. they are great, but you better know where the limit of the max is before putting it on. You lose most of the warning that you are about to break free.

Young04 - SLOW DOWN!
I'm glad that you didn't get into an accident...they suck. When I test my RSB I'll make sure to do it late with PLEANTY of room on the road
