is my synchro going bad??
is my synchro going bad??
hey
I'm new to stick shifts, my first car that has had one, so i wanted to ask you guys how you felt:
Every now and then when i go to throw my car in third, it feels as it wont go in, only at certain rpms i think... i haven't noticed consitancy yet but, if i pushed hard enuf, it would go into first instead of third.
I had dropped into first a few times, and i'm real glad i wasn't stressing the car, so i don't think i damaged it doing that...
I'm just throwing the stick straight up from neutral to third and it just doesn't slip in... Could this be a damaged synchro? If so, why doesn't it happen all the time?
Who has had this happen?

The grinding noise is comming from the syncro, saying it's a problem or not really depends. A good tranny should never have a grinding gear. An occasional gear grind on a 2002 is normal though.. Once it starts happening all the time you have a real problem(like me).
