2k2 6 speed problem (long)
2k2 6 speed problem (long)
This morning, i decided to open up my car from a stop in a secluded area behind some factories. I wanted to see how fast i could do a 0-60 run with my friend holding the stopwatch.
Now, my car has 39,000 miles on it already and the clutch was replaced at 10k due to a "dying squirrel" squeaking.
I dropped the clutch at 3k rpm and the car took off, but the clutch never fully engaged, the pedal stuck to the floor and slowly released (even though my foot was completely off it). It was as if i was RIDING the clutch all the way through first gear up to 6400 rpm.
when i shifted into second gear, i actually had to wedge my foot under the clutch pedal and pull it off the floor.
my buddy thought i was riding the clutch too, because the rpm stayed at about 5,500 rpm for both first and second gears until the clutch finally engaged.
he timed a 6.24 second 0-60
I've had problems with the nissan clutch before, but this is completely new to me. under normal driving, the clutch has always engaged predictably. But during that run, its as if the clutch sticks and doesnt want to engage under hard acceleration.
any comments would be appreciated.
btw... i've driven stick since i got my permit, so its def. not because im a "new stick driver."

Sounds like it was low on fluid and or the car hadden't warmed up yet. My Grand Am did something similar to me once and it ended up that my slave cylinder had leaked all of the fluid.
Try checking the fluid, you may have a leak.

slave cylinder
I had this problem on my 89 and it was due to my slave cylinder going out. I don't know if the 6 speeds use a similar arrangement, but if it is the cause, have them replace both cylinders. Replaced the slave and then had to replace the master about 6 months later. Just to beat the question, mine went out after nearly 110K miles so it was normal wear and tear IMHO.

too long t remember
I just remember the clutch pedal going to the floor and having to force shifts. With your description it could still be the clutch cylinders as it is my understanding that they work off of vacuum pressure from the engine. Under hard acceleration the engine will not generate a lot of vacuum and it will typically shut down things (like AC) in favor of power.
The ESM for 02's says that for a spongy clutch (which was the closest thing to your description) should have the master cylinder, operating cylinder (which I was referring to as the slave), and the clutch lines checked for air.
