FrankenCar Intake

Just installed the Frankencar exhaust. Best sounding intake I have ever heard. The sound is really cool, a very healthy, ripping growl.

The engine def has more hp on the top end, easier revving too. Feels like I added a lighter flywheel!!

The guys at Frankencar were quick to send me my order and very professional. Good job guys,

Regards,

Roberto

Re: FrankenCar Intake

I got one on my 4th gen max and I agree that it sounds cool. I beat on the throttle so much now

When did you order your intake and what filter option, K&N or Apexi? I'm certainly glad to hear you got yours quickly, I've been waiting for mine since Oct 31st with emails and pm's unanswered. You say the top end feels better, do you notice a low end loss?

I ordered mine about 9 days ago and got it today. Ordered a red pipe w/K&n filter. I would have to say the car revs quicker at low rpms. I def did not feel a low-end loss, regardless of what dynoes have said in the past. Top-end is definately improved, in the 5000-6500 range there is quite a bit more power...

Sorry it took you so long, did you order an Apex? These guys were very quick and professional with me...

No there is NO low end loss with hybrid setups like FrankenCar. No intake can make the engine rev up quicker there's no way. It may feel like it because it's much louder than stock. Also, I don't think that you can FEEL the hp gains. It can gain 4-8hp to the flywheel on 4th gens but you definetly can't FEEL it when driving.

Well I feel a difference between 5000-6500, there is def more power there. The car used to feel flat in this range before... now it is more lively. My engine is not a 3.0, it is a 3.5L... Quite a diff I think.

I'm just letting out a little frustration, I know its not their fault about the Apexi filters. To be completely fair they have been responding to my inquiries except for the ones I sent within the past week but with the holidays that seems acceptable.

Congrats!

Maybe someone can answer this. I have a Berk Intake with the FrankenCar midpipe. I've spoken of the very intrusive whistling at idle-whatever. When I hit 4,000 rpm's the Midpipe growls awesome, but when I hit the mid-upper 5's it sounds horrible, like the engine is going to explode. Steve was awesome enough to send out his intake with Apexi overnight at a price that was honest. (I'm sure you know how most companies screw you on overnight delivery) All couplers are tight and the midpipe looks like everything is on correctly and as snug as possible, meaning everything lines up. With the Apexi I think I'll have to bend the midpipe a tad so that the Apexi isn't up against the strut tower. I noticed that the intake manifold is at a slight angle. What could be the problem? Do you think the FrankenCar intake will solve the horrible sound at high rpm's?

..like the engine is going to explode???

I honestly have no idea. Mine sounds awsome from 2k all the way up to redline. Maybe it's just your opinion on the sound. What do the people that ride with you say about it?

They think it's awesome and then I get the what's that. It's like the engine reaches it's threshold sound wise at mid 5grand and then sounds terrible after that.

I know what sound your referring to , kinda a raspy sound close to redline , think its just the resonance.

from about 6000rpms-redline the intake manifolds on the 2002-up maxima's do not breathe well at all and the sound level increases and changes pitch due to this resonance inside the manifold.

i guess it's all in how you percieve the sound i love the 6000-redline growl it sounds like a nascar.

I'm still waiting for mine to come. I called Steve yesterday, extremely awesome how you actually responded for a callback! Never have I've experience such service. My order was shipped out today (hopefully) and I sent an extra $15 for overnight delivery, which means I will be getting it tomorrow, Saturday delivery

I'm actually going to use couplers and try to make a CAI letting the filter rest where the resonator sits to see how that works tomorrow. Come on Steve don't let me down!

I always hear 2k2-2k3 raving about the Frankentake but never 2k-2k1 owners. How does it sound on those?

it sounds very good also just not as loud at the 2k-2k1's breathe a lot better all around so you don't get the increased sound from the intake manifold resonance.

Just got mine yesterday and did the install myself in between customers this afternoon. Install on this intake is a cakewalk, didn't even have to scream for one of my techs. Got to take a quick ride down the road and back and it does sound sweet... sleeper stock until you punch it. I plan on a dyno run after the ECM has some time to figure out whats going on and will post those vs the stock numbers.

Thanks again Steve!!!

Just sold mine not too long ago, not sure why. Probably cause I became a throttle junkie and wanted to race anyone next to me. Steve, you'll see another order shortly, I want one another. Chris
