2k3 SE 6speed vs. 300M
not even a chance...dimeless chrysler didn't stand a chance with that "machine"...
I pulled out into an intersection...maybe a little too early, but this 300m that was coming up on me didn't even try to slow down...so I gun it...initially he's right next to me, then I pull past him...next thing I know i'm doing 80, he's behind me, but about 2-4 car lengths...then I slowed for traffic...when he passed me the look on his face....priceless...
he didn't know what he got himself into...those darn big_three buyers just don't have a clue what comes over from Japan...too funny...

I've driven a 300M - nice car. Not really much of a performance oriented car IMHO. The engine is rated at like 250hp, but it's 300lbs heavier than a Maxima.
It has the Auto-stick trans, but that is NO match for a 6 speed manual. The auto-stick is more of a novelty than anything else - the shifts aren't that quick when accelerating. I found it more useful to use it to drop a gear for passing power.
I've only owned my 2k2 Maxima SE for a couple of weeks and before that my family has only owned American. Recently my mom traded her '95 Sebring for a 2001 Camry and I traded my '96 T-bird in for the Max. All I can say is "why didn't I go Japanese earlier????"
I'm really enjoying the solid feel of my Max - it's SA-WEET. I've read posts about some of you guys knocking Nissan for the problems you have. Try driving an American car for a few years and you'll see how good you have it.
Now American muscle cars..... That's a whole different deal...

I heard somewhere that an upcoming Intrepid was going to be RWD so that makes sense that the 300M would be also.
Stick shift would be interesting, but I doubt it. Then again, you can get a stick shift in a Lincoln LS and a Cadillac CTS - what's this world coming to? Cadillac and Lincoln trucks?? Now even a Porsche SUV?? AAACCCK!!!!!

I thought the Maxima was built in the U.S.A. now?

Just look at the VIN code on the driver side of the dashboard. If the first character is a "J", then it was made in Japan. If instead it's a "1 or 2" then it's made in the good old USA. I think that the 6th gen. Max will be assembled in Tennessee, hometown of the Altima too.

the 2003 Maxima was still built in Japan....
and it's not the people that are building the cars that make them bad, it's the people up top, giving the workers crap to assemble...you ever look closely at a 1996 Pontiac Grand Prix...with the parts that the workers were given, there is no way anyone could put them together to make something nice like a Lexus or Nissan...the parts don't fit to begin with...yet the workers are instructed to put them togehter or find another job...
If you gave the American workers good parts to assemble, they would build a good car...look at the cars Toyota and Honda build here in the states....it's not the workers, it's the American Corporations that suck...

about the 300M....
I once saw a commercial abou the exclusivity of the 300M's... The deal was that only prefered buyers were allowed to see or test drive them... you would have to call for an appointment and if you qualify financially or what not, then you can buy it... I was like WTF... Not even BMW or Lexus do that. The car wasn't all that or will never be all that.... This was when it first came out....
Gosh the vq in max is so much quiter at full throttle compared to the 300m's or any chrysler v6... I've rented plenty to know...

a horrible sounding V6 that they dropped in a car WAY to heavy for it's power output...and then calling it a performance sedan?
I think not.
It may even have more hp than the Maxima engine (cuz Nissan lied) but I'd rather have my VQ any day over any domestic crap V6...no matter if it's the most powerful V6 out of the states or not....it's crap!
