Totaled my car
Totaled my car
I know its not a new Max like you guys drive, but I totaled my 91 Q in the big winter Storm when driving thu PA (coming from NYC holiday trip back to KY).
WAs stuck in PA and had to take the greyhound (37 hours!!) back to KY.
That car was one of the nicest early Q in the country at the time according to the dealer and just about anyone whose ever seen it.
A mere 6 days before the accident I went to Atlanta and she got a new injector harness and 7 new injectors, new plugs and was idling with a perfection I had never experienced in any car.
U couldnt tell the engine was running period.
I also had converted the leather interior to the 90 style interior where the handles, handle covers and seatbacks match the floormats and dash instead of the leather.
It was so beuatiful I fell in love with the car all over again and vowed to keep it forever.
That was a mere 6 days prior to the crash.
I am now looking at other cars
Candidates so far: Another 91 Q in unusally good shape (ie three quarters as good as my old one) available almost locally, a 98 Q45t (good deal+good condition still under warranty, but the 97's and 98's where arguably some of the least desirable years) or a used 5th gen Maxima.

Sorry to hear about the loss...
As for a fifth gen Maxima, they're great, but it might be kind of hard to go from being bathed in luxury (Q) to a Nissan...and remember, Infiniti service is infinitely better than Nissan's...excuse the bad pun.

Sorry to hear
I remember perusing your website with your pic's and trips. Hope you find something you like. I have a 5th gen and, although I love it, cant imagine you "stepping" down to it from a Q. You just wont be happy.
they dont mean stepping down on features and power, they mean build quality. In that regard, Q's are just amazing. While I would take a 5th gen over a early Q, I suspect the 10 year old Q would give you less trouble and a better ride.
Two different approaches to a car. The 5th gen is like make a niche in the market place, keep it reliable but build it as cheaply as possible. Thats just economics. The Q has always been marketed to a highly discriminating buyer. A Q buyer doesnt expect any corners to be cut. At least thats is how they market it.
The Q has always been a showcase of import car manufacturing. I think its only rival was the Lexus LS400.
I looked at the maxima after spending a couple weeks in a J30 (same engine). While I liked my max alot, I found the 4 year old out of production J30 to be superior in many ways. If I could have found a clean enough one, I would have gotten it over the maxima (in 2000)

if you ever get a maxima dude...get it in manaul
also, get a 2k2+ 5th gen, the 2k/2k1 are less powerfull
although sometimes i think about getting a 2k1 5sp and putting a supercharger on it, than it will cover up all the missing power that the 2k2s have

I agree that the Q is a great car. My dad had the first gen, but he got rear ended (now driven by little brother) and bought a second gen (97). I love how the 97 looks and rides; the interior is nice as well. I think either generation would be a good choice. Good luck
Fred, sorry to hear about your car!
Definately look at a 2k2 6-spd. Your Q was definately a nice ride, but I think you will definately like the '02. I think you have driven TonyVQ's '02 before and I can let you test drive mine with the suspension upgrades, just let me know.
I was definately looking forward to racing you again in the Q. But, alas, you won't be able to show me that it can acutally beat my stock SE!
( Sorry, had to rub it in... )
